There are quite a few different brands of Pineapple Corers available. Many are of a very similar design and may well come from the same factory in China before having a brand name added.The OITUGG comes nicely packaged and, unlike many of the corers, includes a detachable wedge cutter. Plus, it also comes with eight nice little fruit forks that were better quality than I was expecting for a ‘bonus freebie’.The box has illustrated instructions on it and the corer is very easy to assemble and use. However, it is best suited to small-medium sized pineapples with a relatively uniform shape.If you use the corer for larger pineapples you are likely to find that you miss out on the flesh around the outer edges, unless you then use a knife to carve it out, which rather takes away the point of using a corer in the first place.Equally if your pineapple is more egg-shaped, you are likely to find that you have peel around the top few slices, which you will need to cut off.There have been reports of some pineapple corers of this design breaking quite easily. The spot welds holding the cutting disk to the main shaft are quite small but should be strong enough, provided you keep the shaft vertical, don’t push too hard and keep turning as you push down. Also twist slightly counter-clockwise as you start to pull the cutter back upwards.Once you have pulled the corer out with the pineapple attached you take off the handle, turn upside down and tip the cut spiral of pineapple off.If you want to use the wedge cutter place it over the shaft once you have removed the handle and push down through the pineapple spiral.
