As a regular user of chainsaws for around 40 years, I had become reasonably competent at sharpening my chains by hand. At first, I found it tricky to get consistent results, and went through a series of sharpening jigs and hand-held grinders in search of those elusive tooth angles. In recent times I had been using the Oregon Universal Field Sharpening Kit for freehand sharpening. However, doing a proper job would still take me around 20 minutes for a saw with an 18-inch bar, and I often found it tricky to hold the chainsaw steady, particularly when out in the field.Cue the Oregon bench-mounted mini grinder which I bought from Amazon for £59.99. I could have spent £200 more and purchased one of the Oregon grinders from their Professional range, but I went for the cheaper model instead. It came with two grinding discs which suited both my Husqvarna 350 2-stroke chainsaw and my two DeWalt electric saws. I was slightly concerned about some of the comments from purchasers concerning the quality of the device, but still went ahead with the purchase, thinking that sixty quid was a hit that I could take if the device proved unsatisfactory.I needn’t have worried about the quality. Sure, the body is made of plastic rather than metal, but it’s quite robust enough - providing that you’re not someone who’s going to chuck it loose into the boot of your car. I started by fixing it to an L-shaped wooden frame using two M10 hex bolts (not provided in kit). This allowed me to use the grinder in the woodworking and engineering vices in my workshop as well as in my Workmate bench (see photos).The instructions may be printed in twenty different languages, but they are not easy to follow - as many others have commented. However, anyone with a mechanic’s mind should soon be able to work out how to set things up. Having first chosen the correct grinding disc, there are only three adjustments to make, namely: the depth of cut, angle of cut (30 degrees left or right for most chains) and the amount of tooth to be ground off. Each of these adjustments can be set in just a few seconds.In just one respect, I wish that I’d never discovered this grinder. This is because I’m now acutely aware of all the wasted hours of my life spent sharpening chains by hand that I can never get back. Using the mini grinder is such a joy that I now almost look forward to a chain becoming blunt! Changing over the griding disc takes just a couple of minutes, and even though you first must remove the chain from the saw, I can sharpen a chain in less than half the time that it used to take me by hand - and with consistently perfect results.I haven’t owned the grinder long enough to comment on its durability, but I see no reason why it shouldn’t provide long-lasting service. So, if you own a chainsaw, don’t hesitate, buy this grinder!

Herramienta ideal para el afilado de las cadenas de uso personal. Ofrece un buen ángulo de afilado. Potencia suficiente para el uso ocasional como es en mi caso. Aunq seguramente ofrezca las mismas prestaciones en uso diario no intensivo

Cela fait 32 ans que j'affute à la lime, merci à Franky de m'avoir fait découvrir cette machine. Matériel livré avec 2 meules de diamètre différents, ne tourne pas trop vite ( évite de brûler les dents) plaque de calibrage très complète. Rapport qualité prix plus que correct
