I bought this device mainly for wireless CarPlay. My car (Toyota Corolla Hybrid from late 2020) supports wired CarPlay through USB-A, but that means connecting a cable to my phone every time. I wanted to be able to use CarPlay in combination with wireless charging.When I buy gadgets like these, I like to buy the most recent flagship model of a device, as it usually has the latest technology, options, and software and is built with the development experience of all the previous models and therefore likely has less bugs or ‘child diseases’ and should generally be more stable and compatible. Well, that seemed to be just a theory at first.Unfortunately, I was initially not impressed, especially considering its price. Wireless CarPlay, my main reason for buying this product, wasn’t working stable. The device would constantly reboot 2 seconds after switching to CarPlay. I tried everything I could think of. The device was already on the latest software version (so it said, see first screenshot), I upgraded my iPhone to the latest iOS, I tried using the power bypass Y-cable, and tried using different cables. I tried factory resetting the device and re-configuring the bluetooth and wifi connections multiple times, but nothing seemed to work. This was unacceptable to me and I thought of just returning it.Luckily I didn’t and I tried contacting customer support first. They were quite responsive and provided me with clear instructions to do a firmware upgrade. Apparently, there was a new version available that the device couldn’t find because the running version of the software did not yet support Over-The-Air (OTA) software upgrades. However, the newly downloaded version did. After upgrading, it turned out there was an even newer version available (just a few days old) that could now easily be installed Over-The-Air. I was very pleased to notice that it fixed my problem! CarPlay is now working stable and it seems to boot faster too.So right now I’m quite happy with the product, although I still think it’s a bit overpriced. However, I do like the good support / after-sales. The frequent and recent software updates to me indicate that the device is at least being actively maintained and improved and I like that.
