The UK GCSE exam season is nearly here - and you have to write in black ink.With a lot of trying outagainst rival brands, I rate these as the best option - in that they are smooth to write, very rarely skip, don't bleed even on basic A4 paper pads and have a good resevoir of ink.The ink is water based - but a "smudge test" on A4 lined paper pads showed they were safe in about 5-6 seconds. Not as good as biro's but these write a lot faster and look much better.For science and math's papers they also do them in red, blue and green.

I drew this piece using these Pentel R50 pens; The water is soluble enough that it works well with water pens for on-the-go sketching or en plein air sketching.These are some of the best affordable range art pens on the market, and they are excellent for using with documents or school work as well.Writes smoothly, draws smoothly, and the lines are water soluble enough to ink with while also leaving a clear mark behind, preventing you from erasing the original linework when applying water to any artwork.10/10
