you dont have to push on its back for it to purr, just pet it, it makes it more realistic. The kids loved the packaging too ;) we bought 3 of them in a toysrus and the plush was a surprise, but on amazon you can actually choose the one you wish to have, and you can pretend its a surprise if you want ;) but you got to choose!
