I didn't need a new torch, but I wanted one. The one I used most had these wacky straps and it was hard to adjust and just kind of awkward on.This is a sleek head torch!It's light and comfortable. The straps adjust easily, making it so easy for me to adjust it for a hat and no-hat application.The strap holds are smartly positioned -- I have long hair and there's no tangling or tearing of my strands even when I adjust it WHILE WEARING IT.It flips easily between low, medium and high and the red beam is a nice feature.It's a daily driver for me -- I walk a dog around my unlit county subdivision in Colorado every night. In December, it's dark at 5 p.m.This will be a great piece to carry in my day-hike satchel ... you just never know when you might be hiking out in the dark! A well-lit trail makes all the difference.I like that it uses three AAA batteries, though that size isn't my favorite. (Not as useful as the AA) A few days after getting it and using it, I decided to upgrade to the rechargeable battery, which doubles the price of this unit. It's nice to have the option for AAA or rechargeable. (It even comes with Duracell batteries.)I didn't love paying $60 for a headtorch, but I'm really happy I have a $60 headtorch now!

This is a purpose built headlamp, its low intensity mode is bright enough for close up usage(arm's length or notetaking etc) and it's high intensity is super bright for farther visibility, it has red light that can be both solid or flashing to preserve my night vision and not to blind the other, it also glows in darkness so I can always find it(very practical).When you turn it off it gradually yet quickly dims itself, rather than an instant shut-off, so my eyes can adjust to the darkness more comfortably, as well as making the user experience more premium.It's compact and lightweight, the adjustable headband is comfortable and tight enough to wear on head or on helmet/hats.Overall it's a far more superior headlamp than my previous ones. Hope it serves me well for years to come.

This is my second Petzl Tikka headlamp purchase. I bought the original model about twenty years ago and used it extensively on multiple wilderness trips and almost daily for walking the dog in an unlighted neighborhood. The original lamp is still going strong, although its headband has lost its elasticity. Since I couldn't replace the headband easily, I opted for a new Tikka. The new one has plenty of light on the medium and high settings, and there is ample illumination on red to allow for safe walking in the dark without losing night vision. The newer version lacks the option of a narrow beam, and a beam diffuser; however, I don't miss the narrow beam as the current version has enough lumens to make the narrower beam unnecessary. The low setting is just right for reading.I bought the optional rechargeable battery pack and am very happy with it. I've used it for 3 weeks without a recharge when using it nightly on the medium setting for about 15 minutes.The one thing I would change is to make the headband replaceable and detachable for cleaning. Altogether, this is an excellent and durable product.
