Polar's OH1+ is a great alternative to chest strap (ecg-type) heart monitors, for people who can't wear chest straps for whatever reason. It has some flaws, but overall it works.Comparison:I've used a few smartwatches, such as the Garmin Vivoactive 3. I'd often find that while I was panting and sweating and seeing stars my smartwatch would still be reading 110bpm. Obviously that's wrong. I'd have to swing my arms a little extra to trick the watch into starting to realize I had moved, and then it might only read 120 for whatever reason. The OH1+ throttles up and down much more naturally, and while it does lag a bit compared to an ECG, I finally feel like the OH1+ is "good enough. The smartwatches just weren't. I'm donating the smartwatch to a friend and moving to Polar full-stop.Pros:-The sensor is tiny. It's an inch-wide disc that's less than a finger thick. It disappears in use.-The band is comfortable and attractive. The sensor clips into an elastic band which is breathable, and disappears instantly once you start working out. I totally forgot it was on. The band also comes in 3 colors as of writing - black, gray, and orange.-The Polar Beat app is amazing. It recognized my sensor even while it was charging, paired it in one try, and doesn't have bloat! The app doesn't show my screens I don't need, it doesn't have features I don't want. The main screen has one button to start an activity, with your most recent log at the bottom, and your current reading at the top. There are a few more controls of course for deeper settings. Kudos to Polar. Setting up an activity in Garmin Connect is a nightmare. Garmin provides a million choices, and they're all wrong. In the Polar Beat app, I just pick a category like "yoga", and hit go. That's how workout tracking should go.-Comes with all the accessories. You get the workout band/clip. You get a belt clip, and a clip designed for your goggles for swimming so you don't get the elastic band wet. Brilliant. You also get a USB charging clip. Pop the sensor out of your chosen workout option, into the USB clip, and connect that to a "type A" (USB 2.0 compatible) port. Beautiful.-The optical sensor is good. I strapped my OH1+ just below my elbow. The OH1+ got a much more accurate reading, much faster than any smartwatch I've ever used.-Connectivity is amazing. Unlike my Garmin, the OH1+ is recognized by basically anything. You do NOT have to use a Polar-branded app to pair the OH1+. It has Bluetooth and ANT combined with an open data platform, meaning it can connect to virtually anything. I'm using the DDP Yoga app. The OH1+ connects to DDPY, and anything else including my treadmill, while the Garmin doesn't.Cons:-The 1 status LED is cryptic for anything other than charging. It's always a little silly when these sensors have such cryptic readouts. This unit (if you're not looking at the sensor LEDs themselves) only has 1 status light. You will have no idea what the blinking means until you've used it for a while. I'm sure they could figure out how to add a couple lights to break out important features - in particular, I really wish there was a dedicated light to tell you when the unit is tracking in "phone-free" mode so you know it's safe to put the phone down and work out.-The button is bad. I get that Polar wanted to protect against accidental presses, but it really is difficult to tell if the unit is working because the button press is so hard to decipher and you only have the 1 LED. It does click, but so faintly that anyone with less than perfect fingertip sensitivity will be blind to it. If you can start and stop activities from your phone, you'll avoid the button for the most part. The app is great.-There's no real way to wash the strap. You can't take the plastic clip off the band. Polar suggests rinsing the band with water and soap when necessary, then hanging it to dry. That's not a perfect solution if you do a lot of sweating.Overall:For most people, this is a great alternative to a chest strap. It has much better tracking than any smartwatch I've ever used, it's super comfortable, and it pairs to anything. You can avoid pretty much all the downsides if you're comfortable starting your workout from the app instead of fiddling with the button. I do primarily yoga and weights, so I tap the button to go, and I'm golden. I love my OH1+, and I can't imagine going back to anything less.

I hesitated on buying this for a couple of months because of some of the negative reviews I read, such as; (1) Some people said that it stopped communicating with the Polar Beat app... This happens if you allow the iPhone Health app to communicate with the OH1+ as well, it takes over and prevents the Polar Beat app from recognizing the OH1+. Simple fix, go to Bluetooth settings, forget the device, pair it again, and only use it with either the Polar Beat, iPhone Health, or some other app, but don't try multiple app's (this would be nice, but my experience is that once you settle on a fitness app, you stick with it). (2) Other people said it's not accurate... I have found it to be very accurate when compared to an old Polar chest strap, and this OH1+ is way more convenient!

I wear underwire sports bras when I work out, and heart rate monitors in the form of chest straps are awful. They have to be under the underwire to be near the right place, and that makes it harder to breathe.I bought this because it was an armband and uses more lights for better accuracy. How I actually use it: I use the included swim goggle clip on the earpiece of my glasses to read from my temple. I had to add some teeny tiny rubber bands to the clip to take up extra space because the earpiece of my glasses is very thin, small, and slippery. Why don't I use it as an armband? Well, I have had trouble with this monitor getting 'blinded' by the light of full sun hitting my ridiculously transparent skin. I have literally moved the arm band from one arm to the other on long bike rides to 'chase the shade' so to speak. When it's up on my temple, my helmet shades it a bit and so full sun is less troublesome there. Also, I have some extra weight on my arms that may make my pulse more difficult to read there. My temple has no such issues.I do not know if more melanated folks would have issues with full sun like I did, but I do highly recommend the temple location if your eyewear allows it. You might have to use a bit of something to keep the monitor clip from sliding up and down the ear piece, but a box of stupid little black rubber bands intended for use on hair is super cheap and does the job.As far as using the monitor beyond the positioning, I had zero difficulty connecting the monitor to the polar beat app, zero trouble with Strava, zero trouble with Zwift. I had a little bit of minor faffing about with the Garmin 510, but once the Garmin connected to the monitor it hasn't had any difficulties again. The dropouts I've seen on the rides have been attributable to sunlight or slipping out of place. Never had issues with the Garmin or any of the other apps 'forgetting' the connection mid-activity. It was so easy to get the polar to talk to other devices that once my husband accidentally connected to my Polar instead of his own heart rate chest strap when we were riding the tandem with separate Garmin devices.I also have a fitbit I bought back in the spring, and I can see in the various apps that the Polar is doing a better job of counting my heartbeats--the wrist mount is really not the best choice for a heart rate monitor because it's impeded by the motion and position of the wrist itself. So I am very pleased with this heart rate monitor. It talks to all the hardware and software I want it to talk to, it has a nice long battery life with a quick recharge, it is very small and easy to wear in different locations, and it appears to be more accurate during activities than the fitbit on my wrist.

腕に巻き付けるタイプの心拍センサー、すごく便利です。サングラスに装着してこめかみでも計測可能です。(アタッチメント付属) バッテリーのもちは短い感じがしますが、フル充電で数時間のライドなら問題無いでしょう。
