If you are anything like me and have wanted to own a footed cake stand for a time, but the space necessary to store one has kept you from truly being serious about looking for and then purchasing one, your wait could actually be over with this Sophie Conran footed cake stand made by Portmeirion. I was shopping for an entirely different piece of china when I saw this footed cake plate sitting on a shelf alongside a stack of dinner plates in an advertisement. What caught my eye was seeing how little a difference in height there was between this footed cake stand and the stacked dishes sitting right alongside of it, and realized there was really no reason I could not fit this in the cabinet, so I bought it, and am very happy to have it. While Sophie Conran for Portmeirion is not my dish pattern, this cake plate being white and fairly simple in design, it works fine with my dishes and probably with most other people's dishes too, and while it took some rearranging in my kitchen, I did actually find space for it in the cabinet, and not only that, but I have space to sit things on top of it in my cabinet too.Some things you should know if you are considering purchasing it -1. This cake stand is heavy. I say that because you probably do not want to be storing it in a spot where you would have to reach way up over your head to get it out, because you do not want to drop it and have it hit you accidentally due to its weight. My guess is it weighs close to 4 pounds with nothing on it. It's weight means it is super sturdy and the cake stand is not going to feel like it might tip over when cutting a cake on it.2. The cake stand measures 12 1/4 inches wide, and its base is 7 inches wide. The cake stand itself is about 3 inches height.3. The glaze on this cake stand is a glossy white finish. It is truly beautiful to see. The glazing work is impeccable on the cake stand I received. The concentric circles on the cake stand give it a rather organic look.4. This cake stand does have a rim that is about 1 inch in height, so this cake stand is not a completely flat topped surface.5. It is microwave and freezer safe, as well as dishwasher safe. The bottom of my cake stand is marked oven to table. It also is made in China, so if you are looking for a Portmeirion piece to be made in England, this one is not going to be it.6. Finally, this cake stand comes in a nice box, so it makes a great presentation if giving it as a gift.

We purchased this for our wedding. We loved the simple yet beautiful design. It held our tiered cake perfectly. Was hard to find a cake stand this large! This one is perfect. Major plus is that when cake cutting it did not tip over whatsoever. Very sturdy design and while it looks delicate, it was great quality.

Really lovely stand, very elegant and will not topple over. Can be used for quiches, pies, cakes and puds. Very pleased with it. It arrived very quickly and well packaged

I was surprised and liked this cake platter even more than I anticipated. (The Anchor glass dome fits perfectly.). This cake platter has always been sure footed when cake cutting and serving.
