As knurling tools go, this is obviously very cheap (an industrial quality tool would come in at £300 +) so I wasn't expecting too much. But it does actually work (with aluminium at least!) - see photo of a knurl on 1.5 inch aluminium alloy bar produced by two passes (one forward, one back) with work rotating at 65rpm. Not the crispest knurl I've ever produced, but adequate. No noticeable double tracking or tearing.Like all the knurling tools of this sort of design I've used (including scissor knurlers) the tool is somewhat 'floppy' and tends to knurl on either the leading or trailing edges of the wheels, depending on which way you're traversing the work. But it can be made to work - hence (taking the price into account) my four stars. I haven't yet tried it on steel, but on the basis of past experience I would expect it to be OK provided you have a lathe capable of exerting/maintaining the necessary pressure without breaking anything. Obviously it's not going to work on a light lathe where the scissor-type tools are more appropriate.

Everything lined up but so much play in the head and rollers it won't knurl properly.
