works well and easy to use

This is a budget dual thermocouple thermometer that comes with 2 probes and batteries. It is very easy to use and comes with all the basic features like min, max, average, hold, backlight, unit selection and differential temperature measurement between probe 1 and 2 so it can automatically subtract ambient temp from measured temp.. quite handy if you're measuring MOSFET temp increase over ambient for example.The only issue I had is one of the probes seems to be bad. It occasionally spontaneously shows a random reading even if you don't touch it. I presume something is not soldered correctly or is loose around the thermocouple. Symptoms of this showed up when I tested the probes in a freezer and the temp would jump between -17C and 890C even without touching the wires! Seeing as I'm not the only one with a faulty probe I would think this is a quality control issue with the probes. I did not see a problem at the probe tip so it might be a break in the wire or inside the connector.I would give the unit at least 4 stars but since it seems that it ships with flaky probes, and not just for me, I have to deduct a star. I would imagine someone with an urgent need for this unit would be quite upset to find out the probes are unreliable even with delicate household usage and then have to go through an exchange process in hopes of a more reliable set of probes. Probes need better QC.
