QNAP QHORA-301W Next-Generation Wi-Fi 6 Dual-port 10GbE SD-WAN Router

Ik kon de gratis SD-WAN niet goed installeren. Ook is de interface onduidelijk en zitten de functies op onlogische plekken in de interface. Tijdens de installatie vond hij zelf geen nieuwe firmware. Deze was er wel. Een paar euro voor een 10G interface in mijn huidige zelfbouwrouter heeft betere resultaten.

In short: SD-WAN: very easy to use, impressive!Wifi-6 and 10G available as connection options.With more details:This router got my attention because of the SD-WAN option it provides, and it is also discreet.The SD-WAN function (called QuWAN in the management interface) was really easy to enable and use.It allows me to connect 3 sites together, in a very easy way, without being an expert.I set up this router following the wizard, change to a network range different than the other locations, create or join the SD-WAN.All the VPN between the different locations are generated and connected automatically.From one location (my home in this case), I can now access the other locations directly, through those VPN connections, as long as I'm connected to the my router via WIFI or Ethernet.It makes it very easy to access all the Windows' shares or some remote internal servers.All the network routing setup is automatic, but there is the option to add some static routes.It seems that I can create multiple separated networks behind the router, with VLAN, but I currently have only 1 per location.One important requirement that I didn't know at first is that to use the SD-WAN function, you must have at least one router with a public IP, then the routers on the other locations do not require a public IP.The web interface also allows me to set up two WAN connections, which I did not have the chance to try. It may be interesting to have it in our main location.I believe if you are looking to connect multiple sites, easily, this router does the job!There are also usual router functions like firewall, port forwarding, UPNP and more.Additionally, the Wifi 6 makes a huge difference compared to my previous router which did not have it.I did not use the 10G yet, but it is available. I may give it a try in the future.The Quality of Service is apparently coming soon from what I can see in the SD-WAN configuration pages.It will be great to have this option as well.

There are 2 negatives to this router, one of which can quite easily be fixed, the other you just have to accept.1) The one you cannot fix - Its quite expensive. You are getting great hardware but its in the top as far as pricing goes (at least in early 2023). You will have to accept this.2) Now the one that you can fix - Almost all of the issues people have with this router are software related. I didn't even bother using the original firmware that was on this router but I am assuming its bare bones. Really quite a shame seeing as the hardware that's under it all is really top notch. So I highly highly recommend installing OpenWRT on this router. I bought it with the sole intention that I would install OpenWRT on it. Once installed, OpenWRT runs really well! Both the 10gb ports work... You won't get much beyond 2.5gbit on them in OpenWRT as there is no hardware acceleration. That's the only negative as far as OpenWRT goes... Beyond that, everything else works great. You can make this router do just about anything. 802.11k/v/r? No problem. Some basic virtualization via QEMU? No problem! Docker containers? No problem! WPA3? No problem! 802.11w? No problem! Any VPN under the sun? No problem! Encrypted DNS? No problem! The possibilities are really endless.So get it with the intention of installing OpenWRT on it and you will be happy.If you do not need the 2x USB ports and the 10gb ports, the AX9000 by Xiaomi is a cheeper option. The CPU is the same but it only has 1 USB port and I believe 1 2.5gbit port.Recommended!

The setup was easy och everthing is working as it should. I can finally utilize full capacity of my 10GBit fiber connection. Testing with Ooklas windows app shows 9,5Gbit download och 7+GBit upload speed (don't use the web interface it only reach ~4GBit). This is why I purchased the QNAP QHORA-301W.
