Just beautiful. It was a good deal that allowed me to get this color.

I have been crocheting a long time, and am fine with cutting yarn, starting new joins, and weaving in ends on a granny square. That said, the idea of this yarn is great! Just keep going and it will make the design in one piece - amazing. This is only going to be as easy as it seems if you can get the gauge on the ball band. It will take practice and experimentation. For me, I have to use two different hook sizes to get the transitions correct. And it took a while to figure out where to make those changes. The colors are great! This is a total retro blanket kit. I'd suggest mixing in some standard blocks or it may be a bit TOO bright! And this is Red Heart Super Saver, so you are not going to get the softest experience, but it will soften with washing and drying, for certain. THROW THIS IN THE DRYER!

This yarn is designed to make color changes in just the right places so that you can create a flower square without changing yarn. To achieve this, you have to have exactly the right tension when working the yarn. This might involve some experimentation with yarn tension and also with crochet hook sizes. So while the instructions for this yarn say to get a 5.5 crochet hook- get a size smaller and a size larger. Many of the people who did videos for this yarn ended up using a different crochet hook size than the 5.5.There are instructions with the yarn, but I will admit that written crochet instructions make me kind of crazy, so I was much happier going step by step with one of the multiple YouTube videos that offer instruction on how to make these squares. If you don't know how to make a single crochet, a double crochet, a half double crochet and and a triple crochet stitch- learn those things first before attempting to make one of these squares.I cheated on the last row of the sample square I made and defaulted to completing the square the way one would with a granny square. The first square can be kind of frustrating, but like with any crochet pattern, the more you do it, the easier it gets.A wide variety of color patterns are offered. In one video the guy making these squares used the pattern with yarns he already had. The down side to doing that is that you end up with a yarn tail every time you do a color change. The up side is that you don't have to worry about having the tension exactly right so the self color changing yarn does color transitions at exactly the right time.As was noted in one of the videos I watched, Red Heart yarn is not the softest yarn out there. It isn't rough, just not really soft like some yarns are. What it is, is reliable. You can have something that was made with Red Heart forty years ago and almost certainly the colors will still be bright and true today. The second photograph shows knitting with this yarn, and the third shows crocheting with it. I like how the color transitions happen better with the knitted sample than the crocheted sample. I also tried making a granny square with this yarn. Just as other people experienced, for the initial yellow row I ended up with three sides of a square and not four.Is the initial frustration worth it? If you really like what this yarn does, it may very well be worth getting through what may be an hour or so of frustration determining what crochet hook size and tension works for you. It would make a cute little blanket or even a scarf.Whatever you decide to do with this yarn, I hope that you have fun!

Wife here: I was very excited to get the opportunity to try out this yarn. I’m new to granny squares so I thought this would be a great way to start as I wouldn’t have to switch yarns and have a bunch of ends to weave in later. The colors on this yarn are nice and bright and the color changes are distinct. The yarn was a little scratchy but not too bad. This set came with three skeins of yarn with 417 yds of yarn in each skein. They recommend either a 5.5 mm hook (I/9) or a 5mm ( US 8) knitting needle. This is a number 4 worsted weight yarn that can either be a center pull or unwound from the outside. The pattern they recommend is on the inside of the paper band and the skein says it should make about 12 squares. I tried to make the squares and had a hard time with getting the tension right to make it to the color changes. The squares were also a lot larger than I wanted, so I ended up frogging it all and just making a scarf for my daughter which created a pretty pattern. Speaking of frogging, that went really smoothly as well. So I love the idea of this yarn, but this pattern wasn’t for me and I struggled with tension. As a yarn though it is nice to work with and I did enjoy using it.

I saw this yarn all over social media with very mixed reviews. When I saw it available for review, I jumped at the chance to try it for myself. This is a 100% acrylic, worsted weight yarn and feels the same as every other Red Heart worsted I've used. It's not the softest yarn, but it's also not super scratchy or irritating. It's a great multi-purpose yarn. This All in One yarn is intended to make granny squares with a floral motif and boy, is it cute! I followed the included pattern with the intention of making a blanket. It did take some trial and error. Since the colors change automatically, it is imperative that you have your gauge and hook size correct. Otherwise, you will have to frog and redo to ensure that the color changes at the correct point in the pattern. With a little trial and error, I was able to get it down. The squares are super cute, and I can't wait to put a whole blanket together. I wish they would put a multi-color pack together here on Amazon instead of just a three-pack of the same color.Overall, if you like to crochet granny squares and you don't mind a little trial and error, I definitely think this is worth giving a try.
