This hat is excellent. The adjustable velcro strap at the back of the hat enables you to tighten or loosen the hat as needed. Not only do the ear flaps completely cover and protect the ears, they extend along the jaw line, and I found this to be a bonus.The hat is super-lightweight and rolls up with ease or can be stuffed into a pocket or bag without compromising on its form, shape, or efficacy. It is completely waterproof and fleece-lined. It's very cosy and insulated.The short brim does prevent some rain from splattering you directly in the eyes, but if you wear glasses like I do and you pull the hat down low, you might find it somewhat uncomfortable. I got used to it before the day was through, and the aforementioned discomfort is far less than wearing a beanie over glasses.All in all I am well pleased with this hat and it suits my purposes perfectly.

Chinstrap is mainly to keep the earflaps down/up, you don't need to worry bout strong winds taking this off your noggin. Hat will keep your head cosy/dry.Only complaint is the chinstrap came off on one side after a couple weeks but there is a small hoop each side, so you could remove it altogether/replace with your own.

My daughter was distraught after losing a similar hat . Since she received the replacement she wears it just to keep her head warm and snug . Cannot comment on its waterproofing qualities but she loves this item ! I may even buy one for myself !
