I was skeptical and worried about the temperature of the product itself. It does get quite hot especially within the first 48 hours but it does even out once the viv is up to temperature.In the end our snake didn't like it (corn snake). We have 2 4ft vivs side by side with access point between them so she has the full 8ft as her habitat. We put this reptirad in one viv and one side hoping it would provide a gradient but it doesn't. She hid away in the hide furthest away from it and was less active. Took it out and she went back to her normal active self.So while this is brilliant at providing an overall ambient temp in your viv you won't necessarily get a gradient (think that will depend in size and shape of viv) and your reptile (perhaps more so snake) might not like it. Worth considering.The unit itself is solid and very good quality. It performs well at providing a constant ambient temperature. Not exactly cheap but not extortionate either. Wasn't the easiest to install onto the roof of the viv with the tiny screws they give you but despite what you think it does hold the unit in place. It's just fiddly and awkward to do. Looks great. Sits flush to the ceiling of the viv. Your only issue will be the wire and making sure your reptile can't get the hold of it etc. Very slim so you can't see it once installed.I would recommend it for lizards etc but advise that depending on the type of snake you have they might not take to it. Our corn snake didn't.

After losing one ball python to a nasty respiratory infection, and another affected by a power outage and irregular temperatures caused by a dodgy ceramic heater, our vet recommended this, which was a bit pricy, admittedly, and I was hesitant to commit, but I am so glad I did. Our vivarium, which is 4ft by 2ft and 3ft high stays toasty in all weather and climes, even with the British weather and the ice and snow! My python is so happy and much healthier now, and I would never go without. Installation was surprisingly easy also, considering I am basically useless at screwing things into other things - but a few minutes and a hand to screw in the 6 screws (which don't look like they will hold up the entire thing, but they do!) and it was on and raising the temp substantially. I did keep an eye on it to make sure it didn't overheat, and obviously, it's plugged into a good thermostat, and all has been well since. Really chuffed.

Fantastic product. I use Reptirad in my outdoor tortoise housing – both in the sleep compartment and the day area. One of my tortoises came out of hibernation very early this year, and despite the very cold weather (down to -9C overnight on occasion), Reptirad kept her outdoor housing nice and toasty warm. Highly recommended as this form of heating is well out of the way of reptiles/animals and is very easy to install and use.
