Works. Mechanical, metal OK. No batteries. Goes forever.But after 4 months use, it has got covered in meat fat, which is tough to remove. If you wash it and get water inside ( there are 7 holes on the back side) like me, the water does not drain out easily. Water mixes with fat on the inside and covers the inside of the glass, making it very hard to see the dial in the oven when it eventually dries.So be careful when cleaning not to get water inside. It still works, but hard to see temperature.
