Having 3 allotments, weeds are a bug bear. I was looking for a pull back stirrup hoe and saw this one and decided to give it a go. It is heavy and extremely well engineered. The curved hand piece to allow one's hand to push is out of this world. The head or blade is heavy enough that it lays flat and doesn't bounce. If the soil is soft it is s easy to bury the head and pull using one's weight which is far easier than pushing. Hand on heart it is the best gardening tool I have ever purchased. But. It is a professional tool. It is at least twice as heavy as the toy hoes so don't expect a spindly thin handled tool. It is made for heavy work. It is simply brilliant.

Well to start with this isn't the average Hoe, it's the stuff you get out when you have a problem...I bought this to get rid of a load of brambles as they are tough..as soon as you get this in your hand you realise it's not for gently hoing between the cabbages..it's a hoe on steroids..the handle is thick, very thick, it also has a rubber grip at the end of it, but the business end is the bit that does the work it's serrated at the sides and the edge to the front of the hoe is sharp..it's a fibreglass or composite handle, i think ..it's quite long to, as a hoe should be...it's really well built for tough stuff..so if you have problem roots or tough weeds then this will be the thing you reach for..it's not light but I didn't find it over heavy..So to sum up, it's very well built, it's tough, it looks as though it will last forever.and if you just want to hoe between the plants to remove some young weeds, buy something else...if you need something that needs extra ooomphh...this is it...
