I had waited sometime to admit that I really did need a garbage can for the kitchen and finally ordered this one. It is great!! They said it was black. There is a strip of black around the top of the can below the lid and black is on the step on opener. The rest is aluminum and very nice. There were no dents or any damage to the can as it was packed so none of it touched the outside carton. The step on opener works beautifully. I was concerned about whether the lid would hit the wood side of the cabinet behind it. It did not! I put in what I wanted and took my foot of the opener and the lid closed by itself with a soft click. You do have to follow the directions and take the inner part out and remove the cardboard from the very bottom of the inside of the can. I do not have the exact size of the liner for it, but that is not a problem and I am just using one which is slightly large. This was a real treat for me! Try it!!! You might like it!!!

If you are looking for a trash can to hold standard 13-gallon trash bags, choose the 8-gallon sized model. It is much closer in size to a "kitchen" trash can than the larger model that says it can hold 13-gallon bags (which is only marginally true, as the container is so large that the bags don't touch bottom and must be stretched taut to fit the rim.) Plus, the 13-gallon one is a monster for most kitchens (note the dimensions).That said, this is worth every penny! We wanted a well-made, attractive, lidded, pest-proof, odor-containing kitchen trash can, and this is is. It opens with your foot, closes without slamming, has a lid that fits well, doesn't scoot back when your foot is on the pedal, and can be cleaned with a cloth. The liner can be removed for sanitization (it would be perfect for diapers).If it seems expensive, ask: how much will this cost per use? If you use it every day and it lasts years, the cost is infinitesimally tiny. Don't waste your $ on plastic or on poorly designed stainless bins. Buy this.

There are a few reviews suggesting to use the 8 gallon to hold 13 gallon bags. Well this does work, but it’s not the same size as a typical 13 gallon unit. See the pic with our old model next to the new 8-gallon for reference.

I like this and we use it to collect our recyclables before we take them to the larger container in the garage. The only negative is that the insert is a bit difficult to remove: pinch both ends and the back AND pull the insert out.

Great design, liner makes it easy to pull bag out, very durable! Love it!
