Seagate Exos X18 ST18000NM000J 18TB

I ordered this disk as an extra cold storage drive in my Synology RS1221+. My selection criteria for this disk: large capacity, good price per TB, long time durability. A bad experience with Seagate 15 years ago got me switching to Western Digital since. But 18TB in a single disk is a massive amount of storage and at less than 20 EUR per TB for an Enterprise level disk with 5y warranty it looked like a bargain. I received the disk a few days after the order in a cardboard amazon box with the standard brown paper as 'protection'. The disk itself was not wrapped in anything but the antistatic bag from the factory. It was also positioned at the bottom of the box, so very susceptible to shocks. I inspected everything but did not see visible damage to either the box or disk, so I installed it in my NAS. The first thing I did was run a diagnostics check on the disk to see if it was new or already damaged, but no errors were detected. As everything looked fine I started filling the drive with backups and cold data to about 50% of its capacity. After a few weeks my NAS warned me this drive might be failing because of read errors so I ran a thorough diagnostics check again which failed to times halfway through. I immediatly copied the data back to the internal RAID5 config and disabled the drive. The SMART info showed contineous read errors and reallocated sectors so I erased the disk, removed it from my system and sent it back for a refund. I'll be looking at WD Red Pro and Gold disks as a replacement.

Ik heb 3 schijven gekocht voor in mijn synology nas.helaas niet kunnen gebruiken.de eerste set had zo'n ernstige vervoersschade dat ze heb moeten terug sturen.de schijven waren namenijk zonder verpakking en opvul materiaal verstuurd waardoor de schijven vrij spel hadden in de ruime doos (ze zaten vol putten en deuken).De nieuwe set, overigens weer verstuurd zonder verpakking en opvulmateriaal.Deze schijven waren defect.1 schijf spinde helemaal niet op en de andere twee draaide wel maar maken een enorm kabaal. (tikken en greinden)deze gaan dus ook weer terug.Het is duidelijk dat Amazon niet de plek is voor het aanschaffen harddisken

Disque de 18 to fonctionne parfaitement..la garantie de 5 ans sur le site segeate et bien valide. Préférer les envois effectué par Amazon avec la garantie. C'est le quatrième disque dur exos 18to que j'achète et tous les disques sont arrivés sous blister dans l'emballage d'origine sortie usine tous les disque sont bien garantis par segeate 5 ans (j'ai vérifié avec le numéro de série chez segeate) seul bémol les disque sont un peu bruyant en écriture et lecture mais rein de rédhibitoire

Dead on arrival. The header is stuck and disk does not spin. Did not expect this from Seagate.

Como compré vendidos por amazon, me aseguré de tener buena garantía por si eran refurbished. No lo eran. Lo comprobé en Linux y eran discos completamente nuevos.

We use these in our data center. Less latency, more capacity than the Seagate 12 TB drives we are replacing.
