The beauty of these small fans is in the ease with which they may be squeezed into a corner. I had an amplifier overheating and tripping out. Within, was a huge heatsink 280 mm long with 4 mm fin spacing. The rather large I/C amplifier has a huge copper rod to conduct the heat away ... only it didn't, due to the lack of air circulation inside the unit. Two fans were squeezed in the space between the fins and the casing ... just. A supply was obtained from a 5V winding of an internal transformer of generous proportions and the voltage doubled using a bridge rectifier to produce +5and -5V, all of which was isolated. The non-metal parts of the fans, their multiple fixing points and low current consumption, made their fitting and supply smoothing simple.It was found that they ran quietly enough not to disturb the listener during quiet passages of music. It also meant that, if your amplifier is in a confined space, these fans will almost guarantee its survivability, as they move quite a large amount of air. The fans in my system run at 10V, but still move quite a lot of air, even with 83% of their full working voltage. The amplifier now remains quite cool, but the room gets warm!
