Design works well. Really helped get these things in check. Every morning more than 20+ in there. Combine that with gravel vacuuming and you win the battle

I do not write many reviews, but I felt compelled to write one for this gadget because I felt many of the customer reviews here did not do it justice. For me, this device worked wonderfully. I caught dozens of snails the first night. I was quite impressed! Based on some of the reviews here, I was unsure if the trap would catch any snails. So I have added some pros and cons to help others make the decision about whether or not this will work for them.HOW IT WORKS:The design is actually more clever and sturdier than I expected. Two plastic panels form a plastic box with bait inside. At the two ends of the box, there are removable plastic poles that turn to lock in place after being inserted. You must remove these poles to open and close the trap. You can put in some of the poles to leave larger gaps for larger snails, or leave them all in for tiny gaps. The poles on the four corners are longer, lifting the trap up off the glass bottom or helping hold it in place in the substrate. Inside the trap box, beyond the poles, are two pre-assembled rows of plastic toothpick-like extensions off of a metal bar. These move freely on the metal bar and are placed at an angle, meaning that snails can crawl in, but cannot crawl out. Bait pellets go in the red cage in the middle of the trap.PROS:This worked well for me in a small, planted tank. The bait was stinky and attracted snails quickly, without making the tank nasty. The plastic was solid and the trap seemed well-made. You can adjust the size of the entry to trap larger snails or small ones. Snails can be removed alive and placed in another tank (if desired). It seems to do a good job of catching only snails, although I could see how small fish may get trapped (see below). I doubt Neocardinia-sized shrimp would be able to access the trap unless a snail lodges it open. The trap is reusable. I caught a lot more snails than I expected, and my plants are much relieved!CONS:This device requires assembly. It is not difficult, but the instructions are purely images (no text). You have to take the trap partway apart to remove snails. This takes a minute or two, and it is a slight inconvenience. While I did not catch any fish, I do understand how some fish species could get caught. I used this in an aquarium with Centromochlus sp., and I thought they would be likely to be caught, but they were not, so maybe it does do a good job of excluding fish. You must put a rock on top of the trap to keep it from floating. You are supposed to only use the trap at night. Finally, only two bait pellets were included in mine. I am unsure if other materials will work, although I bet shrimp pellets will.Overall, I recommend this trap to people with SERIOUS snail infestations in planted tanks with few fish. It was certainly worth the money for me.
