This pickup is everything I hoped. It replaces the neck p90 on an Epiphone es339. Installation was a bear. The switch and all four pots needed to be pulled out through the f-hole in order to be soldered safely, and the mount is very much a kludge. A foam bedding supports the pickup at near the coffect height. You'll need to buy a mounting ring if you're putting it in yourself. Springs are a crucial ingredient. They need to be in there, at a low tension. Their microphonic vibration gives that lovely throaty character of Fender single-coil neck pickups.When I got everything put back together, all difficulties were forgiven. What a gorgeous tone! Clarity and glassy highlights forever without forsaking the brittle breakup of the bridge p90. The very best of all worlds!I recommend this upgrade highly.

This SD SM1-N is the perfect humbucker if you a want to upgrade to a noiseless pickup with great sound. I purchased this pickup for my Brent Mason tele guitar build and couldn’t be happier with the results.

Love this pickup. Classic style, quality construction, great tonality. If you are installing it yourself as I did, please note that the single wound wire is not nearly as easy to just solder in as a dual wire configuration. I had to consult the web and a few YouTube videos to figure it out. The negative wire must be separated from the positive wire and it is a mesh wire wrapped around the positive wire. I had to cut it with very small sharp scissors. After that install was fairly simple. No idea why SD builds it like that, and came across many others commenting with that same question. If you are buying this off of Amazon chances are you will be doing the install yourself. Watch some YouTube videos if your electronics & soldering skills are not great. Very authentic Firebird tone, have used this pickup in a Les Paul replacing a p90 and a Tele as the neck pickup. Big Strat-like neck pickup tones, but as expected, doesn’t pair as nicely with a middle pickup in a “Nashville” type setup.
