If you are a fan, you need this book. I have been waiting forever to get anything on Kevin Ayers. Now, I am waiting for a biography. Hopefully, his daughter has that in the works..

This is a fantastic book, written by Kevin's daughter Galen, which precisely shows what an intriguing person Kevin was during his life and career. Not only from a musical point of view, but also philosophical and literary point of view. The book contains all lyrics which are poetry line by line. My recommendation? Buy it and enjoy!

A really intriguing and satisfying look at the history of one of England's most underrated musician's through his lyrics, photographs and other memorabilia. Highly recommended for all "Canterbury" music fans.

Kevin Ayers is predominantly known for being one of the founding members of Soft Machine. However the man's solo work is some of the most creative, sensitive, wild, wistful and whimsical stuff out there. Listen to two of my favourite tracks 'Song From the Bottom of a Well' and 'Girl on a Swing' to truly see how talented Kevin Ayers was. When I heard that Galen Ayers (Kevin's daughter) had worked personally with Faber and Faber to get the lyrics of Kevin Ayers entire discography released, I was ecstatic. The poetry of his lyrics have this effortless evocative imagery to them,"...Then jumping from an unknown height, she merges with the liquid night."As well as his own, philosophical, musings about the world."If you want to be a star, start shining, shine on. But if you're happy where you are, stop whining, it's wrong".The book is beautifully done. Sourcing pictures, actual scanned hand written note by the man himself, and the random recipe!Galen has done a magnificent job here giving every Kevin Ayers fan everything they could want. The only error I have found is with one of the lyrics in the song 'Song for Insane Times', where the line "...looks at him with her septic pants" has been written as "...looks at him with her sexy pants". But for all I know Kevin did imagined 'The brave new girl who stopped feeding the ants' to indeed be wearing some sexy pants so, let's not quibble.Suffice to say, I highly recommend this book to any Kevin Ayers fan but additionally to anyone who appreciates beautiful poetry spoken by one charmingly distinct legend.
