The back side of the flare isn't round, it has a double bump, distorted in two places, opposite side, as if the C/N 1/4" line was too far into the tool block, or the line distorted, the back side crushed under the pressure from tightening 'too much'. I had to back off on tightening the first flare 'to the bottom' W/ 17 MM wrench, that seemed to help.

This is a great little flaring kit for the price! I was able to precisely flare steel and nickel-copper brake lines right on the car. It was much better than the cheaper flaring tools with wing nuts and a cross bar

Funktioniert auch bei Stahlleitungen.
