My goal was to use a Valve Index VR headset in another room, far from the PC. First, we tried a 10 meter DisplayPort 1.4 cable with fiber optics inside to help keep the signal clean. That cable went from the PC to a simple Cable Matters DisplayPort coupler. Then on to the headset. The dreaded sparkles appeared (randomly colored pixels appearing all over the displays). Sometimes the video signal was lost entirely. Repositioning the DisplayPort cable could make it better, or worse, but not perfect and not stable. So we got this signal booster. The instructions say to put it after your long run of cable. So we installed it in place of the plain DisplayPort coupler. So far, so good. Perfect signal with the booster set to minimum power. Pressing the + about 5-6 times actually causes signal loss!

No llega a 165Hz pero si a 144Hz con dos cables de 3m cada uno. Para mi es suficiente aunque pensaba que llegaría a 165Hz. Producto recomendable!

I was setting up my computer with a 16 ft Displayport cable and I found that the image flickered and went out. The cable was nothing special, good fair quality but it was simply not able to handle the bandwidth. I turned the refresh rate down to 60 Hz and that worked without any issues. In looking for solutions I tried locating an "active" cable but the reviews were not great. So I decided to try this. I was impressed by the small size, all metal build quality and ease of use. I got two 6 ft cables so that the device would be placed halfway. I think this is an important step; make sure that, if possible, you put this unit somewhere in the middle of your long run. It works flawlessly. I am very happy with this.

I'm using this between an Asus PG258Q @240hz and a GTX970 with Gsync enabled. I have a 15ft cable from the 970 to the StarTech repeater, then a 10ft cable from the repeater to the PG258Q. I've only had the repeater installed for a couple hours but it's working great so far (I promise that I will update this review if I discover any issues later). At the lowest two EQ settings, the display either doesn't sync or flickers horribly; the next two settings up seem OK; anything beyond that and we're back to flickering or no sync. This is exactly what I'd expect to see; this is the first video repeater/equalizer I've used where the EQ setting actually had a noticeable effect. It's worth noting that the online-only manual states that at 4k60 (same bandwidth as 1080p240), the max supported cable length is actually 16ft+6ft. I had to reread the Amazon product description to find the hint they left about that limit. My run would be possible with 15ft+6ft but I used 15ft+10ft instead just to see if it would work for me, and I think it does.I've attached a screenshot of the cable length table from the 04/10/2017 rev of the manual; this is really important to know about. Yes, this information is actually there in the current description if you read *everything*... but the important stuff is buried in the middle of a paragraph of text that's easy to skip over.

UPDATE: Its now October ( bought in May ) and it has become terribly unstable. It takes half an hour to get a semi stable output. I would not recommend at this time. ..I have a Lenovo mini computer and it is about 12 feet away from my 4k monitor. The signal from the computer was not enough to keep the display from breaking up. I ordered this unit and installed from computer to short DP cable to ( this unit ) to long 15 ft cable and it didn't work. I installed ( this unit ) on the end of the long cable with the short cable from ( this unit ) to the monitor and it worked great. Not that is should work this way. I still have to reset it after every power on cycle or the screen splits. I have no idea why that has to be done either. All in all I would buy this again if I needed to run from a weak display.
