Stone Dish Droogmat voor aanrecht

So I bought this because I absolutely HATE water drops on my counter, especially at the sink faucet. I loved the idea of using a product that is made of diatomaceous earth since it occurs naturally, absorbs 150% of its weight in water and binds to bacteria and dehydrates it, which makes it an antimicrobial material!!! I intended to put this under the faucet handle but also be big enough to catch all the water spray and errant drips at the kitchen sink. It fit width-wise, exactly how I envisioned but… it ended up extending a bit farther than I wanted and with the white marble, it was such a stark contrast to my counter color that it really stood out too much. So…..I decided to use it under my rolling mat that I use to dry dishes. This turned out to be INGENIOUS (see pic)!! Before getting this mat, I would put my dishes on top of my rolling mat to dry but soon found out that all the water would drip onto the counter underneath the rolling mat. So I started wiping most of the water off the dishes and let them air dry the rest of the way so that no excess water would accumulate. Kind of a hassle but I didn’t want stagnant water collecting under the rolling mat. But NOW…. Since I won’t be using the diatomaceous earth mat at my faucet, I put it UNDER the rolling mat and VOILA! My dishes can drip all they want and I won’t have to worry about germy, pooling water because of the diatomaceous earth mat underneath! So you probably wonder why I just don’t put the dishes straight on top of the diatomaceous earth mat??? Because I’m neurotic and like the air to circulate under the dish/object to prevent the area that contacts the mat from not drying out. Yeah, I know, sucks to be this anal.It is definitely impressive how fast the water is absorbed/evaporates. I did a few tests to see how long it took to dry: with some wet hand sprinkles, less than a minute; a teaspoon of water was about 5 minutes and a tablespoon took about 10 minutes. Obviously, you wouldn’t be dripping that much water on it just by drying dishes but I was curious! I also noticed that the “stone” doesn't feel heavy like solid stone. I have this coaster that I bought eons ago and I thought they would be made from the same material. However, from the enclosed instructions, the mat is made of diatomaceous earth and recycled paper. It’s got a heft to it, feels solid when you put it on a surface but I’m not sure how durable it is if you dropped it (the instructions actually say to handle with care to avoid cracking). I was thinking about trying to cut it with a wet saw to make it work with my faucet until I decided to use it under my rolling mat. With its porous construction, you definitely do not want to get anything on it that stains (i.e. coffee, grease, red wine, etc). There is a small piece of sandpaper that is included in case you get a stain but I haven’t tried it. There’s also a slight chalky feel to the mat but I’m not sure if that goes away with use.Overall, though, I’m over-the-top ecstatic about my purchase and will continue my quest to find a smaller size diatomaceous earth mat for my faucet. But this one totally delivers as described -- at least for the absorbency part, did not test for heat resistance but it does come with rubber pads to make it non-slip!!!!

I recently got my hands on this stone dish drying mat, and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer! Made from diatomaceous earth, this mat absorbs water like a sponge and dries faster than I can finish my morning coffee. No more puddles on the countertop—hallelujah! One evening, I placed a soaked wine glass on it, expecting the usual drip drama. To my surprise, the mat absorbed the moisture instantly, leaving the glass dry and my counter spotless. It's like having a tiny Sahara Desert right in my kitchen. However, a word of caution: avoid spilling dark liquids like coffee or red wine on it, as they might leave stains that are tough to remove. But hey, that's just an excuse to be a bit more careful (or to drink white wine instead).Overall, this mat is a stylish and functional addition to any kitchen. If you're tired of soggy dish towels and wet counters, this is definitely worth considering. Cheers to dry dishes and cleaner counters!

This stone dish drying mat has been awesome! It dries quickly and doesn’t develop odors like regular drying mats, which is a huge plus. Aesthetically, it looks great—so much so that some of our guests have mistaken it for a fancy cutting board! The only downside is that it stains more easily than other materials. A quick scrub or light sanding brings it back to looking new, but it’s best to avoid items that might leave stains if you want to minimize maintenance.Overall, it’s a fantastic and stylish addition to the kitchen, and I definitely recommend it!
