Great quality, easy to setup, excellent signal and coverage. Interface (SRM) is intuitive and familiar with Synology NAS devices. Good mobile app. Lots of features that are easy to setup emotion in depth knowledge and guidance on the Synology website where needed is superb. Could be a bit prettier but that would be nitpicking!

UPDATE 03/23: I have contacted Synology support, and this is what I have received: "the RT6600ax router does not support 160MHz in certain regions, including Australia. Australia Wireless regulator ban frequency 5600MHz~5650MHz (part of high-band) and we don't support running 160Mhz on low-band."Update 12/23: There seems to be an issue with enabling DFS channel and 160 MHz, and I reckon it's because of the lack of Synology's support of 5.9Ghz in Australia. The issue is that first channel of the 5Ghz WiFi band (or radio) would sometime "disappear" from end devices, which will then result in said devices losing connectivity.Update 03/24: The DoH drop-down menu only gives you Google and Cloudflare. However, I previously thought only these two are available and supported. But I have just noticed that this can be configured to include any provider by entering the URL of any DoH server like Quad9. You need to obtain the settings from your preferred DoH provider. Personally, I use AdGuard, as I have an AdGuard DNS subscription, so I could monitor everything that's happening.Update 15/10/24: I've been using this router for two years without any issues (apart from what I have mentioned regarding the loss of connectivity if you change the region - but do check the latest update as per the dates). The 5.9Ghz band and 160 MHz remain disabled if the region setting is kept to Australia. The router gets steady updates with improved or new features.Update 25/10/24: Version: 1.3.1-9346 Update 11, particularly this line "Fixed an issue where the Wi-Fi connection might not work after SRM is updated from versions older than SRM 1.3.1 Update 3." Now, when I bought mine, it came with Update 1. The sentence is a bit vague, to be honest. In any case, this update still did not fix the issue of loss of connectivity with Enbling DFS and 160 MHz.This router is amazing in every sense. Its solid performance, features and security are at the top. However, the only problem, is that it doesn't support 160MHz in Australia (at least not yet - See update above), even though it says so in the description, but it's not applicable in Australia. However, changing the region, from Australia to US, allowed for additional features to be enabled, such as DFS channel and 160MHz.Whilst you can still change Australia to US, and to overcome the issue of 5Ghz radio 1 from disappearing you'll need to disable "Allow auto-switch to DFS channel" and "Allow auto-switch to 5.9GHz channels". You can keep the "Enable 5.9GHz compatibility mode" on, however, I don't see any purpose to that. For the second 5GHz radio, you only get "Allow auto-switch to DFS channels", I haven't seen any issues with that band, even though it's enabled. But if you experience any issues, disable it. Reminder, these settings are only applicable if you change the region location. If you keep the region set to Australia, you don't have to worry about those, and you'll never experience any problem with the router's performance. So, for those whom 160MHz is important (and it should be) because this router supports the 5.9GHz band for Wi-Fi use, and that's what enables the router to access a third 160MHz high bandwidth channel that is free from radar signal interference. In Australia however, that frequency range needed for 5.9GHz Wi-Fi to work at that high bandwidth is not enabled. Once it's supported in Oz, a firmware update should enable it on the router, as it already supports it.Apart from that, the Synology RT6600AX is a solid router from performance, features and security. I previously had the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-11000AX, but it went kaput after it decided to no longer advertise Wi-Fi to devices (in fact, stay away from the ASUS), eventually I returned it and got the Synology.Compared to the ASUS, there are no dropouts in connectivity, the connection is stable. The Synology comes with an abundance of features, that for the average user could be overwhelming, but for savvy users, those features are beneficial. It comes with built in Firewall (an actual firewall, that you could fully customise based on your needs), unlike most common routers where you just have an on/off button for enabling firewalls, without any customisation. The cool thing is that when you enable UPnP, the firewall doesn't keep it open, but automatically adds the device to the list whenever the device is turned on and require UPnP (especially for game consoles). Once the device is offline, it's removed from the firewall list. The VPN package, comes with numerous VPN types, including site to site VPN - I connected to an Azure Virtual Network Gateway, and it worked like a charm. You can also create a Synology VPN, and connect to it via the Synology VPN app, through mobile or PC. For PC however, you have to login to the VPN website you created and connect through there (but you still need the app to establish the connection - which I find a bit daunting). Alternatively, you can create a VPN profile on your OS (Windows, MacOS, Linux) and connect directly through that instead of relying on the app. But there also other options like OpenVPN, so you could use the OpenVPN app to login to VPN.You could create VLANs/new networks (and multiple SSIDs). Update 09/24: If you create a VLAN, say, specifically for connecting a switch, and assign the VLAN to Port 3, the Synology RT6600AX does not support UPnP and Open NAT (mainly used for gaming) on the end devices, you will get Moderate NAT and UPnP failure, even if they're enabled in settings. But that's only when you're creating a VLAN, assigning it to a port, and connecting via Ethernet. But if you create a new network (without assigning it to a port), for use as a separate SSID for WiFi, say for IoT devices, you will not experience UPnP and NAT issues. The issue as explained, is only when the new network is assigned to a port and connected via ethernet. The UPnP is designed to work only on the primary network (based on Synology support, as I have raised a ticket with them). You can also separate the radios (2.4GHz and the two 5GHz bands) or you could use the smart connect feature, so you can use the same SSID and WiFi password to connect, in addition to guest network.Additionally, you can enable high-priority traffic for up to three devices, so in my case that's more than sufficient (I have my PC, XSX, and PS5) set to high priority, as the XSX and PS5 are used for gaming and the PC mostly for WFH.Attach a high-speed USB (in my case I am using Sandisk Extreme Pro), to install additional packages like Threat Prevention (this is an IPS/IDS, and malware protection) to enhance the security of the router and network overall. It is important that you're using a high-speed USB and formatted as EXT4, this will be used for installing packages and logs, therefore you wouldn't want to use a slow USB that may impact connectivity performance (also a tip disable the downgrade USB 3 device in WiFi Settings-Radio).The Threat Prevention is simply amazing and will protect your overall network, and devices if there are any malicious activities happening to and from your network or your devices. Because I use a static public IP address, it's not challenging for bad actors to try and attempt getting access. But at every turn the IPS/IDS dropped those packets immediately, and you can create a policy rule based on suspicious events if need be - The router already contains tons of built-in IPS/IDS policies, and the database is updated daily. The threat prevention has thousands of policies across different signatures, some of those signatures has references, like description or bad IPs. But you can also add another layer of protection in the network security by enabling auto block, attempted login within certain minutes. In addition, you can create and manage a list of IPs to allow or block. Tip: You can get a list of abusive/bad IPs from GitHub and add it to the block list. My block list contains 198220 public IP addresses. On top of all that, you could enable MFA/2FA for all users requiring access to the router. The MFA also applies for accounts accessing VPN.The router comes with DDoS protection, as well as using DoH (DNS over HTTPS), through either Google or Cloudflare. DoH is a protocol that encrypts DNS traffic by passing DNS queries through an HTTPS encrypted session. On top of all those security features, there are additional security databases in the control panel app, that are also updated daily to protect your network, such as Domain Name Database, Google Safe Browsing, IP Geolocation Database...Those are particularly useful for safe access. If you're not too technical when it comes to knowing which security features you need to enable and how to keep your network secure, don't worry. The router comes with an app called "Security Advisor". It will scan your device and gives you detailed step by step on how to increase the security posture of your device and network. It will run a scan across 5 categories: Malware, Account, Network, Settings and Update. You can create your own security baseline (custom), or choose from two options "For home and personal use" or "For work and business", and schedule the scan you your liking. It also comes with an app (naturally) which is fully functional and allows you to monitor your network and configure the router through the app. However, note that to take full advantage of the other settings for the router, you will nevertheless have to connect via browser. In conclusion, the Synology RT6600AX is a solid performer, offering exceptional security features, customisation options, and stability, making it ideal for both savvy and non-savvy users. The router excels in terms of security with built-in firewalls, VPN support, and advanced threat prevention. So, for those needing robust network protection, versatility, performance, security, and flexibility this router is an excellent choice. Avoid if you definitely need 120Mhz (if you're in Australia).I would passionately buy the next Synology router, that is when they release WiFi 7 routers, otherwise I will keep using this until I feel it has become obsolete, and Synology has not released any new routers, that's the only caveat.
