Recording quality is detailed, balanced, and accurate, and using the 32 bit mode does seem to provide a lot of room for gain adjustments later in software without adding too much noise/distortion. That said, I still find it beneficial to set levels judiciously to help minimize the noise floor, which was already far lower than I expected based on research prior to my purchase. It’s practically nil. In my final mixes and productions, I’m getting the results I want with a variety of instruments, eq, and effects applied, I can definitely recommend this recorder for field use and will be using it more frequently than I thought as it noticeably outperforms similar devices I’ve used in the past.

Noise floor is unreal, at 90 volume - the hiss sits at around 30db and regular sounds still sound way too quiet. Formatting sd card in the unit makes the card un-usable. The menu and buttons simply are not well thought out. Not easy or fun to use, bad audio, and software bugs make this unusable even for hobby work, forget about it for any paid work.

it only takes a limited set of micro SD cards, mentioned nowhere on the product page. this is a liability for the future, since my very fancy SD card isn't read by it. You can find what ones it does take on the website.I'm going to try all the SD cards I own, and then I'm returning it if it doesn't work. if it turns out the firmware update fixes it I'll bring it back to 3 stars, but it'll still need one of the narrow ones to do the firmware update, because it needs to have a card it can read to do the updatehow did they release it in this state??

Boy, this thing is big. If you want to carry it around in your pocket, you are going to need a very large pocket.The menu system is easy to work with the 4-way buttons.But why does a 32-bit float recorder need a gain setting? I don't get that.

For the most part I like it. However, a rubberized more surefooted, less susceptible to noise when handling finish, as well as microphone to housing shock insulation would have been a big plus. Maybe a firmware update to broaden auto-record sensitivity options would be welcomed, as there's quite a hole in between current preset options. Sensitivity, is either to sensitive or not sensitive enough to activate auto-recording, in order to capture distant audio input.
