A superb product for several reasons.1) Unlike most of its competitors, the power supply is built in, meaning you have one less power brick to deal with.2) The power cord is a standardized version, easily replaceable with an inexpensive substitute if you lose the original.3) The power switch is located on a side surface, not on a top surface, which means there is no danger of turning the device on or off if you place something on top of it, such as another identical hard drive enclosure.4) The USB 3.0 port on the device uses a standard USB A-Type design identical to the familiar dimensions of a USB 2.0 A-Type connector instead of the USB 3.0 Micro B short surface connector, which is one of the worst designs ever made. The USB 3.0 Micro B connection is never secure and falls out easily. USB A-Type connectors do not have this problem. A male to male USB 3.0 A-Type cable is included with the device.5) It would probably be impossible to design a more compact case for a 3.5 inch spinning hard drive with a built-in power supply. The fact that is made of plastic, not aluminum, means you need to handle it with care, however. In addition, there is minimal ventilation, although appears to have a small built-in fan. If the drive got hot, you might consider cooling it with an inexpensive USB powered external fan.6) Icing on the cake would be the inclusion of an “on” indicator light; let’s hope that’s part of any redesign.7) The comprehensive, comprehensible, illustrated instructions included are a bonus. Instructions for devices made overseas, particularly in China, are often poorly translated and impossible to understand; not so with this product.8) Installation is a “snap,” both literally and figuratively; it only takes a minute or two.9) Delightful finishing touches are the inclusion of a small Phillips head screwdriver to install the four screws holding the hard drive to the case base, and one extra screw in case you happen to lose one of the rascals.10) Finally, although it has nothing to do with this product, I’ll mention that I always make a Xerox copy of the label of the hard drive I’ve installed in an enclosure like this and tape it onto the enclosure. That way, I avoid trying to figure out what’s inside later.11) Kudos to Tccmebius for an excellent design that shows a lot of thought.

I usually don't take the time to write reviews on the stuff I buy on Amazon but I wanted to write this one in case it could be of use to someone who had the same issue I had. I have a 6 year old Lenovo desktop that was running Windows 10 and needless to say I got the blue screen of death- I don't want to boot syndrome. Being a novice I spent $50 on different rescue-emergency boot discs all to no avail, what I really wanted was to retrieve my data and files (pictures, music and documents) off my hard drive, I'll buy a new computer no problem. I then realized that I didn't need to fix the operating system I just needed to pull the hard drive out and find a device that i could put it in to connect it to another PC and this product did just that, within 1-1/2 hours I had safely downloaded all my files to another PC. Not 1 issue, I know there are a lot of reviews that pan it but I think they're using it as a full time running external hard drive and I can see where it may overheat but for my rescue purpose it couldn't have been easier.

There's a certain thrill to snagging a great deal on a USB WD hard drive. But that excitement can quickly turn sour with the dreaded USB WD hardware encryption and losing data on an 8TB drive like that -- been there, electronics failed, lost-everything-on-it done that. That's why I ditched the encryption gamble and embraced the freedom of external hard drive enclosures. Now, whenever I score a USB WD deal, it's just the juicy filling for my trusty enclosure sandwich. No more encryption woes, just pure, unadulterated storage bliss. After years of testing, I've settled on this enclosure because: 1) great value; 2) it is compact, with an integrated power source that eliminates the need for bulky adapters and 3) after years of service, they're still going.

Manufacturer has terrible answers to questions about your product. Many responses tell customer to send a follow-up email to manufacturer. They also request images showing the problem, and state these must be sent via email. Then, they DO NOT provide an email address. Amazon Customer Service cannot provide email address either. Go figure?Anyway, just for the fun of it, I am posting my entire series of communications about the issues with their HD enclosure.I just purchased the Tccmebius Hard Drive Enclosure Model S8.When I put my 2TB Seagate external hard drive into the Model S8 enclosure, my iMac (OS X El Capitan, Version 10.11.6), I am no longer able to access the Seagate hard drive. Instead, the iMac gives the following message: "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". I used the Disk Utility to run First Aid and that process was completed, but still the drive is not accessible. When the Seagate hard drive was in the original Seagate enclosure, my iMac recognized the hard drive and all of my files were accessible. The Seagate hard drive is properly formatted to work with the iMac. I switched to the Tccmebius enclosure because the connector on the Seagate enclosure became loose. When I put the Seagate hard drive back into the original Seagate enclosure, it works fine and my iMac is able to access my files.I checked all the connections and they are tight.Could you tell me how to make the Seagate hard drive (when installed in the Tccmebius enclosure) accessible on my iMac?Hello, Thank you very much for your feedback and support for our work. 1. If you can, please replace a USB cable and try connecting again. There may be a bad USB data cable that prevents the hard disk from being read properly. 2. After the product is connected normally, check if the indicator light is normal. When the switch key is "off", the red indicator light is always on. When the switch key is “NO”, the red indicator light and the blue indicator light are always on. The blue light flashes when transferring data. 3. Please confirm that your hard drive is in HFS format because only this format is available for Mac systems. 4. When the product is used in the MAC system, the hard drive cannot be read. Solution: -- Go to Computer Management, click Disk Management, see the hard drive displayed offline, right-click Offline, and then select Online Click. (Cause: MAC system, when using dual hard drive, it prompts "The disk has an offline signature Conflict", it means that the two hard drives use the same drive letter, so the system will automatically take it offline. When we right-click offline and then click online, The system will re-allocate the drive letter to this hard drive, And it can be used normally. (as attached picture) -- Because the computer's USB driver has not been upgraded or there is a problem with the driver file, the hard drive may not be read normally. You can solve the problem by re-downloading the USB drive on your computer's motherboard. The driver download File is not provided because the driver files of different motherboards are inconsistent and need to be resolvedon their own. Thank you again for your support of our work!Thank you for your response. However, the disk is still not "readable". Here are my responses to your 4 suggestions:1. I do not have a spare USB data cable. I am using the one that came with your product. If you think it's a bad cable, then please send me a new one.2. As far as the indicator lights, when the switch is OFF, the red indicator is NOT on. If this is a problem, please send me a new product. When the switch is ON, both the red and blue indicator lights are on.3. My hard drive is HFS format. See the screen shot, which shows the File System on my Seagate Backup Plus HD is OS X Extended (which is an HFS format).4. First, your directions about going to Computer Management relate to a Windows PC. Remember I am using a Mac. So this is not applicable. Second, there is not a problem with the USB driver on my MAC. It works fine with all of my other accessories, including the Seagate HD when it is in the original Seagte HD enclosure AND other external hard drives. If your product cannot work with my USB drivers, then I will return it.Also, for you information, the second screen shot shows both: (i) the error message I get when I use your enclosure with the Seagate Hard Drive, and (ii) the information provided by the Mac Disk Utility about the Seagte hard drive (referred to as "JMicron Tech Media") when it is inserted in your HD enclosure. Please let me know if you have any workable solutons with your HD enclosure. Otherwise, I will return the product.
