I'm really happy so far with this plug in cordless door bell kit, at the time of reviewing I have had it nearly a month.I bought an Advantek first which claimed to be waterproof, but on arrival the instructions made it clear the transmitter (bell push) was far from waterproof and needed to be sheltered from sun and rain - not possible for my front door!So I returned it, scanned all the products again and this one claims to be weatherproof to a certain standard, which is not mentioned in the instructions but it doesn't say in the instructions that it needs to be sheltered either.I tried the first kit before returning it, and found it impossible to synchronise the two plug in chimes so they sounded terrible playing out of sync. This TeckNet kit synchronised beautifully and the two plug ins play as if they were one when set to the same tune. The other thing I noticed is the quality and variety of chimes is much better than the Advantek, there is something here for everyone. I currently have mine playing Hey Jude, and this is not CD quality but sounds like a door chime. If it was CD quality I wouldn't realise it was the doorbell. I passed by the police siren (maybe that is good for a rough area but I think I would have a heart attack if that went off in my house often), and the ones with voices talking over a lot of noise (again for a rough area maybe), also the barking dog (have two of those who are more realistic), the piano concerto did sound CD quality and I might change to that one day. There are Christmas tunes, American tunes, and many Happy Birthday to you's - maybe repeated? The problem I found with setting my desired tune was that I pressed the button on the plug in unit until I found Hey Jude, but didn't have the transmitter in my hand so couldn't save it. Then I seemed to have to go through every tune to get back, and I tried unplugging the unit to fool it to start again but that didn't work. Then I had trouble finding Hey Jude, but I got there in the end. When you get the tune you want you need to press both the tune and volume buttons on the plug in unit together (which you can do with one finger or thumb) and at the same time press the transmitter (bell push) button, this then keeps the tune. You need to repeat this for the second unit, either to the same or a different tune as you wish.Plus points:The plug in units don't need batteriesThe light flashes in case you are making so much noise you don't hear the bell (one of mine is at eye level in the kitchen), or if you are hard of hearing. You can plug the two in different part of the house and never miss the doorbell again. They are very modern in design, quite small and come in black or white with contrasting centre.I could plug in something else next to the unit, on a double switched socket with no problem. They have 4 different volumes, great if you need to turn them down at night.Tecknek has an address in Liverpool, seems to be a UK company.Instructions came in just English, which was good for me but might also be a con for non English readers.Tunes are good quality. No batteries required for the plug in units.Cons.They must be plugged in to choose a tune, if you only have sockets at just above floor level you will need to bend to do this.If the power fails they won't work.If you plug them into a non switched socket or extension you will probably not be able to plug anything next to them.I assume if the power fails or is turned off (or you want to move one to a different socket) you will need to reset them to your required tune - yet to be tested, and if this isn't the case I will let you know. You can't carry them round with you, they must be plugged into the mains to work. The transmitter unit (bell push) is quite wide as others have stated, it would not fit on the door frame neatly so I stuck it on the door, not sure how long it will be before it gets knocked off the door. Then it will have to be fixed more permanently to the wall I think.Instructions came in English only, not a problem for me but it could be for others in the UK.
