The CAGED System for Guitar: A Fretboard Mastery Method for Lead and Solo Guitarists

Absolutely the best book on the planet about the caged system, every guitarplayer should have it in his guitarcase or bagpack. Very excellent explenation.

Like all his other books and videos this is really explained in a great way. So complete with text videos and backing tracks.

Actually for me as a beginning intermediate guitar player, the materials are well described but the beginning could better be split into more smaller (practice) steps. The chords in a shape for a tone practicing according circle of fourth was too quick as it is fundamental knowing the rootnotes first for a tone. I experience by doing that you better internalize the fredboard. To say this can be learned in 10 days is for me impossible and i am sure for the majority of guitarists. Furthermore yes this book is definitely essential! More to go and to learn. Its a journey where this book certainly helps.

Es el mejor libro que he encontrado sobre el método CAGED.Las explicaciones son claras y parten de un nivel básico, por lo que no da nada por supuesto y es muy fácil de seguir.El único "pero" es que los video sobre los ejercicios están grabados con una calidad no muy buena. La guitarra está muy alta y no se escucha el backing track con claridad....se hace difícil seguir el "feel" del lick en cuestión

I've been meaning to write this review for a while now. I purchased the CAGED System book because I just wanted to get another take on the CAGED system in general and I was hoping that I could finally find something to "put it all together" for me. I've watched YouTube videos, discussed the system with my guitar teacher, and have purchased a number of other books over the years, but nothing brought it all together like James' CAGED System for Guitar book. I think the best part of this book are the videos that go along with it. I brought the book to my guitar teacher and we went through the first few exercises together and he was like, "wow, these are pro-level licks." Since then, I bring that book to every session and we're just going through it example by example. I read the book before the class, then we work on the licks, and I ask my teacher any questions I've got from the reading. My guitar teacher likes the book so much that he told another one of his students that was struggling a bit with CAGED about it, he bought the book, and now he's also working through the examples with my teacher the same way I am.I really hope this helps someone because it's definitely helped me. I feel like with more practice, I'll finally have some pro-level licks to use in each position of the CAGED system in any key. It's not hard to learn the major and minor CAGED shapes and whatever scale shapes you want. The hard part (for me) was finding licks that I like for all of the CAGED positions, and James' book solved that problem. The other cool thing is the "system" approach. You can learn licks from anywhere (it just takes a lot of time to find good ones), but without a system, you eventually forget them or you don't see how they fit into everything else you're studying. With the CAGED System for Guitar book, I've finally got everything in one place and it's made my guitar lessons so much more valuable and I feel like my learning has skyrocketed too.If you're on the fence about whether or not this is a good book, in my opinion, this is a GREAT book and, if you spend the time to study what James is saying AND work on the licks and examples to really get everything under your fingers, you're going to learn the CAGED system and some really cool licks at the same time.One final word is that James really knows how to communicate well. His books (I've now bought ALL of them) are easy to read and don't leave you guessing about what you're supposed to learn. I go back and re-read chapters over and over (as he suggests) and I feel like I learn more every time I re-read something. There are absolute gems scattered throughout this book.Buy it. You won't be disappointed.

This another excellent book by this author. Well thought out no bull content that works if you work it

A well written book that’s easy to follow.There are no shortcuts but as maps go this gets you to the destination directly.
