I've been buying a lot of instruction books and CD for various instruments lately and this one is really good. I got this for the Clarinet and it is well worth the price.The book starts out with a complete description of the instrument, playing posture, an embouchure techniques. It basically assumes that youv'e never seen a clarinet before. It starts you out with very simple notes along with breathing and tonguing exercises. It then proceed to start you playing very simple melodies. It isn't long before you're playing full piece and there are even instructions and encouragement for improvisation, using the notes as you've learned them.As simple as the book starts out, it covers a lot of ground and has you playing quite interesting and complex pieces before it's done. It's filled with photographs, fingering charts for the notes, and explains all the musical notation as it introduces it. So there is nothing left undone here.It's a complete course. It's almost a shame that they call it "Jazz Method" because this would be a great course for anyone, no matter what genre of music they would like to play. It's a great way to start out on the clarinet, and like another reviewer mentioned, it doesn't start you out with those stupid old childish songs. You're playing decent music right off the bat.If you're looking for a good course to start out on, I highly recommend this book and CD.

El libro comienza desde cero, explicando todos los temas de teoría musical necesarios para poder ir practicando e interpretando los fragmentos que incluye el libro. Si ya sabes algo de música, es posible que la primera parte del libro te resulte algo aburrida, pero en cualquier caso, es algo de mucha utilidad para aquellas personas que desean empezar desde cero.El libro es muy completo, y aunque no es excesivamente largo, sí que toca todos los temas para poder llegar a tocar y divertirse con el clarinete. El libro da para muchas horas de estudio. El CD ayuda a conseguir el sonido adecuado, que sobre todo par un autodidacta puede ser algo complicado.En cada tema del libro, el autor recomienda qué escuchar, ver y leer para ir formándote en el mundo del jazz.Creo que es un libro muy completo y de gran utilidad no solo para los interesados en el estilo del jazz, sino para todos aquellos principiantes y principiantes/avanzados que deseen dar un enfoque menos clásico a su estilo de tocar el clarinete.

very nice and well structure method. I still have not gone through the whole book at the time of writing this review, but I have gone through a good part and feel like I would recommend it to anyone else intersted in learing Jazz with the Clarinette. There is a lot to say about listening on your own and they encourage you to do so, including some names for those not so familiar yet with Jazz. also, they are introducing how to proceede with improvisations, which is also what I was looking for.

I used the alto sax version of this book to learn to play the saxophone many years ago, so I went straight for this series when learning the clarinet. I have zoomed through it and have gone from a beginner to a fairly capable clarinetist in about 5 months. I'm now moving on to more advanced books, but will continue to refer back to this one as I continue to improve at the clarinet.A really great book for those starting a new instrument. The other books in the series are great too.

I have received a totally different book. I don't know how this is possible, but I do hope I will get my money back.
