My dream tool! A very sturdy glass mat with a media area that you can use as a palette for media of all kinds! The cutting area is well marked and easy to read although Tim Holtz suggests you not use any blade that has surgical steel in it for cutting. Just to be safe I ordered the Tonic Studio's Retractable Cutting Knife as it was recommended to use with the mat. Tonic studios say that this mat is strong enough that it can be used to set rivets! It has some good weight to it which means it will stay in place when you are inking, blending etc but that also means this is not a tool you will want to pack up to take to crops etc (They do a make a travel size mat for that purpose). Since the background is black it is easy to see items against it and it is even safe to head against for your embossing! Out went my brown heat resistant blending mat and this glass mat is here to stay!! The mat is almost 24" wide and 14 1/4" high, plenty of room to work! The palette on the right side (they do make a left-handed mat which is something to keep in mind when ordering) has a grid so it is easy to lay out a palette of colours by just putting colouring Distress crayons, dropping alcohol ink, acrylic paint etc in each portion of the grid. The mat is easy to clean, I just spritz it with rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer and everything comes up! I advise you have a scraper tool for getting up dried paint, stray embossing powder, or cured adhesives. I highly recommend this mat!

Wow, and wow again... what a fabulous product. I don't normally 'do' reviews, but I have to share my love with this Tim Holtz glass media mat. Yes, it's quite pricey but you get what you pay for in superiority and quality. It is heavy but the eight small non-slip 'feet' keep it stable and stops any movement on my work table and makes it easy to pick up. In my opinion, this is something everyone needs in their craft room. I have been meaning to get one for ages, then decided to bite the bullet and buy one, and guess what, I am so very glad I did. I tested it by blending Distress Inks onto card from it, which in my opinion, far better than my other media mats. I have used alcohol markers and heat embossed on it. I let mediums dry on it and then cleaned it to see how easy that would be - no problems! All in all, I tried to use every kind of product with it that I normally would as a crafter, and was not disappointed. Since buying this mat, I have now ordered the media tool set (unmarked ruler) as I feel it would be great for lining up words on my project as I am hopeless at keeping things straight!! However, the measuring grid marked in inches and cms along the edges and the 1inch squares are fantastic for helping to ensure level positioning. The removal silicone non-stick white mat gives options when your water colouring and inking, however, keep in mind that alcohol ink will stain it. All in all, this is a 'must have' tool and is the best glass mat I have ever bought, I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to work with mediums in one place. It's FABULOUS!

It took me a long time to decide if I needed this or not, and I watched several videos about how to use it and product reviews. I already have self-healing cutting mats of different sizes, heat protection surfaces/teflon crafting mats, ink blending mats, and other 'surfaces', but none seem to do 'everything' and it can get confusing swapping surfaces depending on the project one is doing, especially if it needed multiple surfaces for mixed media. The Glass Media mat is exactly what I needed - and even has a swatching and blending area, where the paints/pigments/inks seem to 'light' up.... the add-on included silicon mat is also brilliant (don't use alcohol inks on that one though as it will stain, but you can use the inks anywhere else on the mat)....Ink blending is fantastic .... and its very easy to cleanthe measuring marks make it so easy to line things up (including centering points, and its a great size - this larger version is not very portable of course, but excellent as a 'work station', and it takes glues, other mediums, paints, inks, is heat resistant, you can cut on it ..... and moreFinally I have a work station, and its true, products do 'creep in' making one's work space smaller, but this does seem to help, especially with the slightly raised surface, keeping a good size area to work on.(there is a left-handed version now too by the way). Next on the list is to get the more portable glass media mat so I can work in smaller areas.I'm still experimenting but so far I have nothing negative to say - I will update this review if any issues do arise.I highly recommend the Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat, and it was received very well packaged - it is a quality product and one of my favourite tools!
