Love these socks. 100% waterproof, comfortable and warm. A winter must have.Lovely fit without being too thick and fantastic quality

Noisy, uncomfortable and sweaty. They may be waterproof, but my foot seems to be soaked in sweat anyway, and this is going nowhere, so I may as well just walk barefoot across the moor, or just rely on my trust walking boots and normal socks. It's a bit like putting a bag over your foot, except they don't fit your foot as well.Not for me I'm afraid.

For context, I tested these wearing a pair of trainers and basically walking down tracks which were flooded in places for around 6km. Most of it was cross country trails with deepest puddles of water being around 10cm deep. Boggy in many places so they could have a proper test. I walk the same route in a pair of Scarpa Terra 2 boots on a regular basis which are 100% waterproff on the route.The socks were taken out of the packaging as I prepared to go out.They are a little tight on my calves, but I have quite big calves, so couldn't actually pull them all the way up without it being uncomfortable (ex-rugby player so larger than average), otherwise they are quite comfortable and fit well. Not too thick so no issues with putting the trainers on.I walked through puddles which completely covered the trainers, but the vast majority of my foot / ankle felt dry. The only exception was around the toes which kept getting a cold / wet feeling despite water not really getting in. Overall they felt a little weird, almost like you know there is water in your shoes but you aren't quite getting the worst of it.On return, the trainer were soaked, the socks, although damp on the outside were fine all the way down to the midfoot inside, but down from there towards the toes both inside the sock and out felt damp (but not soaked as the trainers).I'm not sure if I have a dodgy pair, as the vast majority of the sock holds up to the marketing, just the bottom 4 inches around the toes did let water in, or there is a design floor that allows water to penetrate through the gortex around that area if pressed against toes which are constantly flexing while walking..Given these are hand wash and hang dry (which will take a while in winter). You can't use a heat source such as a radiator to dry them, so it will take a couple of days to get them ready to use again, and the pricing point is quite high, I probably wouldn't recommend them for walking. Cycling and anything that doesn't involve impact, they will be brilliant, likewise for a paddle in the sea without getting your toes wet.Having used gortex socks since 1991, these don't quite live up to previous versions I've had, although they are around 60% cheaper and look so much better.

First of all, a confession - I totally misjudged the sizing of these socks so they are a bit on the large side for me. That being said, I've tried them anyway. The sock has a defined heel shape (i.e. it's not a tube sock), meaning it will stay in place inside your boots and not end up working its way down your foot. It may be because I'm not used to wearing calf length socks, but I found them to feel quite tight on my leg (and as a less than 8 stone female, I don't have massive calves by any means), and I ended up rolling the tops down to use them as ankle socks.I tested them by fully submerging my feet in water for several minutes, and although weirdly you get the sensation of your foot being wet, once I took them off I found my feet (and obviously the inside of the sock) to be completely dry. When you wash these socks, remember to turn them inside out once the outside is dry, as the moisture tends to stay there until exposed to air.Overall these appear to be well made, feel sturdy and will hopefully withstand repeated washing and wearing (only time will tell, I'll revisit this review if I find any significant problems).
