I have purchased three similar but less expensive enclosures recently. In comparison to them, this enclosure feels much higher quality. The instructions are easy to understand. There is a screwdriver included for the one external screw, and a retaining screw inside the case. An extra external screw is provided, in case the original flies away during the assembly process. There is a protective ventilated silicone rubber shell that slides over the aluminum case to provide protection from physical damage. The USB cord is short, thick, and well made.Instructions say to peel the plastic off both layers of the silicone thermal pad. The one side, however, is smooth and black and does not peel off without damaging the thermal pad. I could not detect a clear layer over it to remove. It is necessary to keep the black layer in place in order to close the enclosure; without the black layer, the outer shell would not slide shut because of the friction of the thermal pad. The thermal pad compresses against the outer shell of the enclosure, making contact across its entire surface. Please be sure there is no clear plastic cover over yours, though, in case mine was an anomaly.I tested this enclosure with a WD-Black SN850X 2TB SSD, a fast and hot-running NVME drive. The WD SSD's maximum tolerated temperature is reported to be 80C. Using the 40Gbps USB-C connector on my laptop computer, I got over 2,000MB/sec sequential read and write from this drive per CrystalDiskMark, which is more than double the performance of my other enclosures. The test in the picture was a 4GiB test. The 64GiB test results were similar.I tested the enclosure's cooling performance by copying 500GB of data (two 250GB Macrium backup files) to the drive, followed immediately by duplicating that 500GB of data. After reading 500GB and writing a total of 1TB of data, HD Sentinel reported that the drive's maximum temperature during the test was 72C. The enclosure was hot, but not too hot to touch.I repeated the test with one of my other drive enclosures equipped with the same WD Black SSD. Data transfer did not reach 1,000MB/sec, and after 250GB of data transfer, HD sentinel reported a temperature of 80C. The less expensive enclosure was too hot to touch. I stopped the test at that point. Previous experience with one of my other enclosures equipped with the same WD SSD was that there was significant throttling occurring, unless I used thermal tape to attach a large heatsink meant for an audio amplifier to its backside.This enclosure provides performance consistent with its claims. It is at least twice as fast as my other enclosures, and much faster yet if you take into account the thermal throttling that occurs with one of the other enclosures. It took four times as much high intensity data writing load to exceed 70C, and remained comfortably under the drive's maximum tolerated temperature. This enclosure may be twice the cost of my other enclosures, but provides more than twice the performance. The next time I need a new NVME enclosure, this is the one I'll get.

Was pleased with smaller transfers of 5-10 GBs but 100+GBs slowed markedly and the unit becomes noticeably hot.
