Sure, it charges a bit slower, but it charges none the less, even while watching a movie on full screen brightness. But close the lid and put it to sleep and the MBA M1 will probably charge from this car charger as fast as from the supplied wall charger. I've only tried this car charger for about 20 mins so I'm actually not entirely sure how long it'll take. Either way, it depends on what you're doing with the laptop at the time of charging. The fastest charge will be while it's sleeping, or off, but this applies to any USB charged device.The charging control in the M1 laptop, or any half-decent USB powered device for that matter is smart enough to only draw what it can get. If it's not enough, it either slows down or simply doesn't charge at all. I also believe this car charger has built in protection. So yes, I think it's safe to say you can't damage either device.
