These gaiters work great paired with my shimano sandals (and thick socks) in winter (Boston) to block the wind. I imagine they will also work for fall/spring rain with a cycling poncho (cleverhood); I noticed the poncho protects me down to my lower legs. In summer, these gaiters will be too hot; better to just go sockless in the sandals during the rain. (I love the versatility and packability of this gaiter/sandal/poncho system; I am always thinking about my touring setup.)One drawback to gaiters/sandals is puddles. Yesterday I stupidly rode into a 1-ft-deep puddle of ice-cold water and had to put my foot down. First, I was surprised how little water made it to my socks; second, I swapped into dry socks (you always carry extra socks, right?). However, in general, the biggest problem will be getting around puddles between bike parking and destinations... I do carry a full-bottom pair of extra gaiters (showers pass) for walking, but haven't needed them yet (they get sweaty while riding; the open bottom of Vaude gaiters really helps ventilation).The other problem is durability. I tested these gaiters out on a fresh-snow hike, paired with my standard hiking boots. This one hike caused considerable fraying on the bottom toe area. I do not plan to walk in these any more; in fact I take them off before going into the grocery (they are very fast to remove and pretty fast to put on). I've also worn the gaiters over my socks and put the sandal straps around the gaiters.Lol, maybe I am just crazy...

Excellent overshoes.I use them over my normal overshoes on raining days when commuting.Keep my feet dry from rain but there might be some sweating.I would definitely recommend them.Not the most aerodynamic if you want to race on them😉
