I'm not a professional climber, but I am an engineer. As such, I can say that these tree spikes are very well designed and built. The stirrups are fabricated from 1.5" x 1/2" aluminum bar stock with what appears to be a powder coat finish. The upper stems that connect to the leg braces taper down to 3/4" x 1/2".The steel gaffs are sharp and canted forward slightly for grip into the tree. Each gaff is secured to the stirrup body with a pair of either 5/16-24 or M8x1 screws, but I can't be positive without removing a screw, which I'm not willing to do, as they are well torqued.A pleasant surprise that I wasn't expecting is that the lower foot straps have metal quick connecting buckles, in addition to the velcro adjustment straps. The buckles clip together with a simple press, and disconnect by pressing inward on the two release tabs. This setup is far easier to secure and adjust than typical leather belt buckles.The upper leg braces are secured to the stirrups with a pair of screws, and are height adjustable in 1/2-inch increments. The braces are canted back slightly to bias the leg position so the boot shank is directly above the stirrup.

Worked great, climbed 5 trees with them in my front yard the day I got them and trimmed them, two hickory’s, two pines and a oak, stuck great in all of them
