I don’t understand how Viltrox can sell these at this price. Excellent bang for your buck. Bought to replace Atomos Shinobi. It was a gamble and it paid off. Other than durability and build, it’s better than the Shinobi in every way.

The market for mid-oriced field monitors had gotten quite crowed of late, and I have several from the usual suspects at just about this price point. This Viltrox DC-X3 field monitor excels when compared to the others I have. To start, while Viltrox isn't a household name, I have several of their accessories, and they are all made well. This monitor is mostly made of metal, which is rare at this price point, and at 6 inches it's also larger than the others in the price range, which usually come in at 5.5". It has all of the monitoring assist funcions that have come to be standard, such as peak focus, parade, and zebra stripes. The 1920x1080 resolution are all you need for a monitor of this size, and the colors are accurate within the Rec 709 gamut. It features a touch screen, which is also rare at this price point. My favorite thing about this monitor is its brightness. At 2000 nits, its easy to see indoors or outdoors, and the included sunshade allows you to shoot in direct sunlight and still easily see the image on the monitor. Next to the brightness, the four custom buttons are perhaps my next favorite feature, as I hate having to dig through menus while shooting, and the custom buttons allow me to bypass the menus and quickly get to the functions I use the most. I also love the fact that it comes with a hardshell case, which was not included with any of my other monitors. In fact, the accessories in the box include everything you need to use the monitor immediately, including an NP-550 battery. Finally, it's whisper quiet, with the fan ramping up as necessary, but even with the fan operating at its highest speed it's barely audible on my FX-3's internal microphone and not audible at all on the microphone mounted to the audio handle. The price to quality ratio for this moonitor is excellent.
