Great product and very well made. The reading is clear and attacheseasily to the flue pipe with the very strong magnet. The idea ofusing one of these thermometers is to achieve an optimum burningtemperature. At optimum temperature stated on the thermometer you willburn the hydrocarbons in wood and achieve complete combustion whichprevents build-up of any tar deposits in the chimney and get as muchenergy /calorific value from the wood/fuel your burning.I also like the fact that the gauge has a clear marking of 350C, asthis is the maximum temperature for most stove fans. I now know shouldthe stove temperature go that high I will know when to remove the fanfrom the stove and wait for the temperature to drop before placing thefan back on.I always start my stove with all air vents fully open, I usereasonable amount of kindling and couple of firelighters. Once thefire is lit I keep the door ajar until the temperature on thethermometer reaches 200C (400F) which is the “Best Operation Zone”. Ithen shut the door on my stove and close the primary air supply. Ithen control the fire with the secondary air supply leaver. I keepadding more fuel when I see the temperature dropping on thethermometer. Good rule to remember is the more fuel = more air supplyless fuel = less air supply.
