In order to light a cig you have to push the tip right into the electrodes to get enough heat since there is no flame. This soots up the electrodes etc. More a feature than a flaw I think, this is how electric arcs work.When lighting up a campfire etc. take a splinter of wood, light that up, then use it like a matchstick. Won't dirty up the lighter since (normal clean) wood doesn't have tar like cigs. If too windy to do this, use a jet ligher instead. Those on the other hand in my experience won't light up if the lighters temp is near freezing or below. Jetless lighters often can be 'tuned up' so that they'll light up even below freezing but they're again sensitive to wind.. so thus far no lighter to rule them all it seems.This has a good batt. lev. indicator and IMO a neat looking design.From a purely practical POV I'd give maybe 3½ or 4/5* (as said impractical for cigs, no torch function, not waterproof, expensive comp. to gas lighters) but I add a extra star for 'neat gadgetry'.
