This is a product for the adventurous, but worth it. There was a learning curve and I’m extremely technical. I tried mac app first with no luck, just use the windows app to prep your pictures as dithered bitmap (the only format that it accepts). The usbc cable that came with it didn’t work well so I used my own. Read the wiki carefully. Make sure photos are the correct dimensions. Make a folder named “pics” and put bmp files in that folder on the SD then everything works. I found a lithium battery that works with it and cr1220 watch battery. The family is really loving this picture frame. The wood frame is not our style so we are shopping for a new frame that will fit the board.

The product is well packaged. The picture quality is mediocre, and the color representation is quite bad, but hey, it's an early-generation product, and presumably you're not buying it because it's the prettiest picture device on Earth. I compared it to better, larger devices, and they uniformly required constant power for wifi and other features, and while much larger and prettier, they cost significantly more (as in 10x more!). That makes this a good value compared to other products in the e-ink class.Function is good - when plugged into USB-C it changes images readily. I can't tell much about how it would work on battery power, since we neither tested that function nor desired it.Ease of use is... suboptimal. The manufacturer directs the user to a GitHub repository for an open-source app that will re-size and reformat pictures to the appropriate size and type. Don't go thinking any old photo can simply be dragged onto the SD card, no - you'll have to use their recommended app, and figuring this out took me a while. I'm comfortable with apps like this, and using it worked well enough.In the end it's what I wanted, although for the price I still wish it were cheaper - about $40 feels about right. Maybe in a few years. But at any rate, it makes a nice gift, and the fact that it can be hung on a wall without cords dangling is very nice indeed.
