I recently had the opportunity to test the Waveshare Modbus RTU Protocol module, and while it does deliver on some key features, there are a few significant drawbacks that can't be ignored. On the plus side, the dual Ethernet ports and PoE power supply are handy for flexible network and power configurations. The relay control functions work as advertised, allowing you to set specific time periods for relay activation via command arguments. The wide power input range (DC 7~36V) and PoE support make it a versatile option for different environments. The onboard optocoupler isolation and dedicated relay driver chip provide good protection against interference and ensure stable operation. However, the user experience leaves much to be desired. The tutorials provided are overly complex and need a major overhaul. They imply that you must use specific software like VirCom or Modbus Poll, which can be confusing for new users. In reality, you can control the relay using simpler methods like SSCOM, but this isn't clearly communicated. Additionally, there's a significant security flaw another reviewer found: anyone can bypass the password via a TCP client from SSCOM and control the relays directly. This is a major concern, especially in industrial settings where security is paramount. The build quality is decent, with a rail-mounted ABS plastic enclosure that looks solid enough for most applications. The clear status indicators are helpful for troubleshooting. However, the overall design feels a bit cheap, which might be a turn-off for some users. In summary, while the Waveshare Modbus RTU Protocol module has some strong points, the user experience and security issues are significant drawbacks. It's worth considering if you have the technical know-how to work around these flaws, but it may not be the best choice for everyone.

Das Modul wirkt durch das Plastikgehäuse eher billig.Die Anschlüsse selbst scheinen aber gut zu halten.Die Software könnte aber etwas verbessert werden.
