  • This is a RS485 device data acquisitor / IoT gateway designed for industrial environment. It combines multi functions in one, including serial server, Modbus gateway, MQTT gateway, RS485 to HTTPD Client, etc. With RS485, WIFI and Ethernet ports, the module can realize functions such as serial to WIFI, serial to Ethernet, Ethernet to WIFI and so on.
  • Using screw terminals for power input, it supports 5~36V wide range power supply. Rail-mount V0 flame-retardant case design, small in size, easy to install. It is suitable for applications like data acquisition, IoT gateway, safety & security IoT, and intelligent instrument monitoring.
  • Support Transparent Transmission Mode,Supports TCP Server / TCP Client / UDP Server / UDP Client.Support Modbus TCP And Modbus RTU Interconversion Mode.
  • The user sends data to the server according to the protocol Send data to different servers without restarting. After the user has set the HTTP header through AT commands or web page, the module can send data to the HTTP server, or obtain data from the HTTP server.
  • Devices can subscribe to other MQTT client messages, and can publish topic information to the server. Supports subscription of 6 messages and publication of 6 topics, wider range of use and more applicable scenarios. Users can view device-related information through terminal devices or cloud platforms.

Instructions are useless and after hours of work I still can't get any data to come through. I tried reaching out to Waveshare for support but they are unhelpful. I bought a different brand unit (from Italy) for about the same cost and had data coming through from my RS485 modbus thermal sensor to my MQTT broker in about 90 minutes.

I used this module as a cloud gateway for a home monitoring system I am designing for my house. The module runs on 24VDC, which is industry standard for DINRAIL mounted equipment. The unit takes some learning in order to use properly. I am using only the basic WiFi access point functionality at the moment. The user guide is very detailed, but poorly written so if you get one of these be prepared to do some head scratching in order to get it running. The basic operation is simple though, and it works great as a cheap access point. It has cloud features which I intend on trying at some point. The key features are is that it has an Ethernet jack and wifi, as well as MODBUS which makes it very versatile for data aquisition. I actually have two of these, and they both work well. Minus one star for the owner's guide being confusing.

The Waveshare RS485 to Ethernet and Wifi DIN-rail MQTT gateway for connecting RS485 devices to an MQTT network. Got this to bring data from my smart meter over to Home Assistant for long term monitoring and graphing power usage. It's compact, easy to install, and offers both ethernet and wifi. The gateway provides reliable communication and seamless data transfer. The DIN-rail makes it easy to mount in a project box with other DIN modules and wire distribution blocks.Solves a very specific need for which there aren't any other good solutions.
