The ruler is both magnetic and flexible, so can be stored on the fridge or even (loosely!) rolled up in a pocket, and there's even a hole at one end so that you can hang it up.One of the feature ratings Amazon is asking for this is "Sheerness" - erm, has anybody looked at what the product it? It's basically a ruler painted on a magnet, so no way should any of it be see-through!The measurements are very clearly marked and easy to read for both inches and centimetres. The only downside is that it's the top edge that you must use to measure with zero being at the left-hand side, so if you want to measure something in both imperial and metric, you have to turn the ruler around. This can be a bit of a niggle, especially because the measurement doesn't start from the very edge (I was taught that this was always done with wooden rulers as they were prone to being damaged/worn at the ends so over time where you started measuring from was no longer zero, so I suppose this is a hang-over from those days). That in itself isn't a problem, but at the other end, the zero is further from the end of the ruler as that's an extra rounded bit for the hanging hole.For anybody that's familiar with chartkeepers for crafters (magnets hold the charts in place on a coated metal board and mark the crafters place on the board), they will know that some magnets are too weak to hold a single sheet of paper in place, and others are so strong that it's hard to move them. This ruler will stay in place with 4 sheets of paper between it and the board, but is still moveable.If anybody wanted to convert this to a shorter ruler, this type of magnet can be cut, but they'd have to first choose whether to keep the imperial or metric measurments (as the zeros are at opposite ends), which would probably only be wanted for those crafters' chart keepers!I have plastic, wooden, and steel rulers in the house, and this one is used far more frequently than the others, plus they can be stuck to the fridge in the kitchen, a metal tool cabinet in the garage, and other places so having more than one is so easy and useful.Can you tell I'm a fan? :-)
