This is a good choice. You should trust me on this, as there is a fair bit of Dutchness in my family. And I've sliced many, many cheeses over the decades. And I eat cheese with a lot of dishes..The problem with the average cheese slicer, and we have tried many, is that it either doesn't work, is too wobbly or that the slices are too thick. It's all highly subjective and it depends on the structure of your cheese but this slicer gives you the right kind of slices.You'll pay up for this matt stainless steel WMF slicer but its durable and effective, and perfectly withstands years of dish washing, and so far our WMF slicer hasn't gone blunt. Most of our kitchen and cooking utensils are WMF branded, just because the range looks somewhat stylish, classic and most of all because of the high quality. For a large spoon or ladle the brand might not be that relevant. But when functionality comes into play like with a slicer or knifes, you might want to consider a proper brand. And this one works well, lies well in your hand and slices without having to apply too much strength.I must say that this is actually our second WMF slicer as I hate it when the slicer is in the dishwasher, just when I am about to finish my toasty or super tasty & spectacular bagel.

I'm the type of person that goes to the store, and spends 1/4 of the bill on cheese. I LOVE cheese, and I (pretty much) don't make a meal without adding some sharp cheddar somewhere along the way. I have so many cheese planes and slicers, I recently had to devote an entire drawer just to my cheese items (and this doesn't even include my box graters). I normally don't write reviews anymore, but I had to jump in and defend this cheese plane. I happened to pick this up at a local discount store (for just a few bucks), and I loved it so much, I came back to Amazon to get another one.For slicing sharp cheddar, this item is FANTASTIC, and my personal favorite, but that is because I prefer a very thin slice of cheese. If you are looking for a big hunk-o-cheese, this will not deliver. What it WILL deliver though, is a small, thin, delicate perfect piece of heaven, that melts beautifully when introduced to a little heat. I often melt some cheese on crackers as a snack, and this is the slicer that I use, every time. I also love the indentions the grooves leave behind in the cheese. This helps the cheese slice much better than regular planes (plus it looks great too).Depending on your task, this product could be just what you need. If you are scouring Amazon for a high quality, easy-on-the-eyes slicer that will repeatedly slice off perfectly-meltable cheesy bits of goodness...then this is definitely what you want.
