This is a simple and well-constructed drum. The sound is even all around as the skin forming the drum is tight but light so the sound passes through the instrument in a balanced way and makes a great resounding noise. Not too loud either which is a plus. Due to its simplicity, it performs like a real instrument rather than a toy - which is what I was looking for. Great size too, not too small or too big - I got the 11-inch size. Comes with one drumstick that is light and easy to hold for my little one who hasn't quite yet perfected his gross or finer motor skills. Happy customer. I didn't give five starts as he hasn't had it long enough to fully test durability.Edit---------------Two years on ans this drum is holding up well after being stood on and thrown around. It still makes a lovely balanced sound when hit. Well worth every penny. I can now award five whole stars.
