WunderKeys Elementary Piano Level 1A

I am completely smitten with this book. It makes the transition from beginner books to RCM prep levels much easier. The activities are built in such a way as to be challenging enough for learning, but short enough and easy enough for students to have a sense of success and accomplishment. The words, pictures and stories add an element of fun. This is the only way to go as far as I have seen, to encourage rhythmic activity, ear training and sight reading at such a young level. All of these elements, again, make the transition to RCM repertoire much smoother. Use alongside, or in place of, any repertoire method you currently use. Andrea has a way of "filling in the gaps" that many "Methods" miss. I love how the activities are built in such a way as to encourage family participation (not necessary, but definitely an option). WELL DONE!!!

Very attractive visuals and materials to keep students engaged through their lessons

I LOVE the level 1 books of Wunderkeys! The comics in each chapter are so much fun! I have one student who read the entire book the first week she had her copy of the book. Now she can't wait to learn each and every song that goes along with the story line. I haven't met a student who doesn't love the characters in this book and the songs, games, and theory activities that go along with it!I have switched my entire studio over to Wunderkeys. I've taught 3 other very common methods and found myself and my students bored! With Wunderkeys my students and I are engaged, laughing, playing games, playing music that actually sounds good, and because my students are actually interested and paying attention...they retain way more! I've seen more progress with Wunderkeys than any thing else I've tried. And the Dow's create so much supplemental content that I am never without new and fresh ideas. I really appreciate that the theory, sight-reading, rhythm work, and games are all contained within each chapter of the book. These books cover it all. And it's fun!I had 2 students that were nearly ready to quit. They just weren't excited about piano anymore. I switched them to Wunderkeys and now they are super happy! One of them even told their friends that they have the best piano teacher because she doesn't make them use a method book (she likes Wunderkeys so much, and it's so different from what she was doing before that she doesn't think it's a method book!)

Each unit introduces a new concept or skill framed in the context of a story, and includes sight reading, rhythm practice, skill building exercises and games, as well as new music to master. Some of the pieces are original compositions, some are based on works of famous composers with familiar melodies. Created by Trevor and Andrea Dow, the series comes with access to a fantastic support network provided by the authors, including free supplementary material. Highly recommended.
