I bought these because I suspected that the original levers on my 20-year-old Trek were worn out. I had already replaced the brakes, pads and cables, (everything really, except for the frame, front derailleur, seat post and stem) but I just wasn't getting enough leverage, no matter how much I fiddled with the system. These were inexpensive, the levers are alloy not plastic, and as long (if not a little longer) than the old ones.Once I got the grips off, it only took minutes to get these installed and adjusted. They have great action, aren't all that heavy, are very adjustable, and have a great "feel". I've been able to hold my bike on an incline for the first time in years. They seem pretty durable too, but I haven't really put them through the wringer yet.I'm beginning to think that I should have replaced the levers before the brakes themselves. The difference is really that great. I suppose that no matter how high-end the original components are, after 20 years they're probably worn out.If you like the long levers, these are an inexpensive, well built and good replacement part. I'll probably buy another set this summer to replace the all-plastic levers on my son's store bike.
