Productbeschrijving

I wanted to add some sizzle to an existing surplus Paiste crash cymbal, so I first tried out the effect with a thin metal chain hung outwards from its centre. I then let the cymbal balance on its stand, by spinning it round several times to see where it rested, and marked three equidistant holes about one and a half inches from the edge (ensuring a gap for the place where the cymbal is usually struck, masked the spot with tape, and drilled, then gently smoothed the edges, . With the rivets in place, I was well pleased with the result.Generally speaking, the closer to the edge, the more effective the sizzle, and the heavier the cymbal, the more sustain you're likely to get. Remember it's important that the cymbal's balance should remain undisturbed, and a cheap cymbal will not become magically improved by a few rivets. I could have installed up to three extra rivets between the existing ones, but didn't need to - some drummers prefer to place three rivets close together on the far side of the cymbal in its balanced position, but I found the spaced out position perfectly OK.Zildjian rivets are ideal, right size, right weight. I found a small pair of crimping pliers to bend out the edges of the rivets, which otherwise is tricky. They're obviously very expensive for what they actually are, but I tried several types of paper rivets, etc., with no success. It's a worthwhile investment.

All you need to do is pinch the end of the rivet flat, I used a pair of smooth jaw channel locks on mine.I have a 22in Zildjian medium ride that weighs over 3 kilograms. It rang forever, after a minute you could still hear it, after 3 minutes I touched it and it was still vibrating.Cymbals need relatively short sustain, or you have to constantly grab hold to quiet them.I made an arbor to spin polish cymbals out the back of my crappy mini-lathe.I polished it up and added 12 clocked rivets.I actually used a clock works to mark off the holes. Now the sustain is just 7 seconds. The 12 evenly spaced rivets dampened the sustain perfectly. To get a sweeter sizzle the cymbal needs to be more thin than thick.Less rivets also will allow the cymbal to sizzle longer. The large swish china cymbals use some 24 thinner rivets and sizzle the best.WRN

I bought these rivets hoping to turn a cracked cymbal into something useful.I installed eight of these around the edge of the cymbal and started experimenting with different types of sticks / number of rivets. I was very disappointed with ring / sizzle as it was very short and not what I had intended! After doing a little research I found these: ‘Bifurcated Brass Plated Rivets’. These are 100 times better than the Zildjian option, far easier to instal and they only cost £2 (per ten). They are the same as the Menil option but without the silly price tag.I hope this review helps someone create a great cymbal without wasting money!

My first time working with rivits, the package didn't come with any instructions so it's kinda up to you how you want to install them. I used a rounded hammer very gently and so far so good

The right material (steel), size, and type for the perfect sizzle. Drill the holes 5/32" to get the right amount of wobble. Slightly widen the bottom ends using a punch or other drift with wide angle, and a hammer. (Withe the cymbal upside-down and the rivet head resting on a heavy piece of metal. ) Split type rivets are easy to install but to me they neither look nor sound right. Now your sizzler is indistinguishable from a factory made sizzle cymbal.
