Bought this for my other half as we are renovating our house and thought it would be useful for all the odd jobs. Its pretty sturdy but we are not convinced on the accuracy of the measurements, founds we were getting different measurements each time. We are only amateur diyers so could be down to user error.

I was sent this for free when I was on the Vine programme a couple of years ago.1 You press its only button for 5 secs to turn it on.2 You give the same button a short press to turn on the laser.3 You give the same button another short press to take the reading & display it.4 You write down the reading within 45 secs before the unit turns itself off.----- The tape -----By deliberately pushing on the tape measures [measuring a stick that was itself pushed up against the wall], this tape measured 1.0455m whilst another tape measured 1.046.- Given the effect of the thickness of the endpieces [0.7-0.9mm] and the accuracy of my eyes, I'd say that both tapes were in agreement at 1.045m +/-1mm.When pulling on the tape to to keep it taut and in-place whilst measuring a stick, both this tape & my other tape measured 1.045m.- The endpieces of all metal tape measures are loose and can move 2mm [well, all metal tape measure endpieces that I've ever seen].I conclude that this metal tape measure is as good as any other metal tape measure.- If I ever need accuracy to +/-1mm, I use a metal ruler or, for measurements up to 15mm, digital callipers.- Whatever I'm sawing is not going to end up much better than within 1mm of my markings anyway. But the fact that this laser measure includes a physical tape measure does not seem, to me, to be worthwhile. I've already got rulers & tape measures and having one integrated into a laser measure does not achieve anything that I appreciate.----- The laser measure -----The product page says its max range is 40m but the instruction manual says 30m.A short press of the power button when the unit is switched on changes its "Measurement datum" from measuring from the back end of the unit to the front end, the laser itself . The display indicates which end it is measuring from.I measured the same stick [above] using both this laser measure and my other laser measure.[I avoided any effects of the length of the lasers by setting them to measure from the front, laser end, not the back end then I pushed them had against the stick when taking the measurements.]This laser measured 1.044m. It claims an accuracy of +/-3mm at 10m. There is a procedure for adjusting its readings for any perceived bias but I have not bothered with it.My other laser measured 1.046m. It claims an accuracy of +/-(2mm+(0.2mm/m)); so it claims an accuracy of +/-4mm at 10m.I also measured a wall that was about 10m away with both lasers sat on a stool right next to each other. This laser measured 9.510m and my other laser measured 9.518m. That's an 8mm difference so this one might be reading 3mm too low whilst the other was reading 4mm too high and, despite trying to be careful, I might not have had their front ends perefctly aligned during the readings. But who knows? And who cares? If I needed to get a plank or a carpet to fit that 9.5m distance then I'd buy one that was 10m and put it in position before making any final trim.I conclude that, for all practical purposes, this laser measure is as good as any other laser measure.----- Power -----The display turns off its backlight after 15 secs and then turns off completely after a further 30 secs.- In practice, that's not long enough. I've had to repeat a few measurements because it's taken me longer to climb off a ladder / get to a flat surface so I can copy the reading down / ...There's a 3-bar battery meter on the display. It flashes all 3 bars during charging even if it had shown all 3 bars before connecting power.- The display continues to turn off after 15+30secs during charging.- There is no other charging indicator.- There is no means of knowing when it is fully charged.- - I've tried putting it back on charge for an hour after I've already seen the battery meter showing all 3 bars on battery power but it still keeps flashing all 3 bars all the time.- - I think this is a significant deficiency. The supplied charging cable fits into its MicroUSB jack [not USB-C].----- General -----There is a small hole in the side of the unit that is not explained anywhere. I can see a metal plate behind it [that does not give if I push a needle in so it can't be a reset button].The product page says its waterproof and even includes a photo of it submerged but the instructions tell us not to immerse the unit in water. Its claimed IP54 rating means it's protected from water splashes [and is dust-protected] which is all I would want but is not the same as being waterproof. This unit does not have holes in its casing for a wrist strap. My other laser measure does but I always stick it in my pocket anyway so I can have both hands free for doing whatever I need to do with the measurements I've just taken.----- My conclusion -----My other laser measure is much more capable & much more complicated.- It can, for example, add up measurements as I go along and can even carry out calculations such as Pythagoras ones.- But I do not wish to devote my life to studying & memorising these complex uses of it.So the current laser measure is really just as good as my more complex one because, in both cases, I write down each measurement on a scrap of paper that I can then use to do whatever calculations I need.

Laser works well. Tape fell out after 3 uses! I think it wasn't connected to the inside properly
